Dr. Isabelle A. Chapello, D.O., FAAO, a long time

resident of Erie, MI, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2013, in Toledo at the age of 92. She was born on March 30, 1921, in Chicago, IL

to John and Eustachia Chapello. She received her BA, Rockford College, Rockford, IL, MS, University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI, DO, Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, Chicago, IL. Isabelle was a Doctor of Osteopathy in Private General Practice in Luna Pier, MI, for over 52 years. She also served 38 years on the staff of Parkview Osteopathic Hospital; 18 years, Monroe County First Chief Deputy Medical Examiner; 20 years on Monroe County Community Mental Health Board; 15 years as a Monroe County Nursing Home Evaluator. Isabelle was also active in many community services, including; Monroe County Migrant Clinics, Polio Vaccine Clinic, Red Cross Blood Bank, Monroe County and Michigan State Mental Health Boards, Michigan Emergency Services Health Council. She was a member of the American Osteopathic Association; Michigan Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, Past President S.E. Michigan Osteopathic Association, Osteopathic General Practitioners of Michigan, Past Member Board of Governors, American Academy of Osteopathy, Past Member Board of Trustees of the Cranial Academy, National Osteopathic Women Physicians Association. Her Distinctions were many to include; the A.T. Still Medallion of Honor by the American Academy of Osteopathy in 1999, Alumni of Distinction Awards for Outstanding Achievement from both Rockford College (1993) and Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (2005).

In addition to her parents, Isabelle was preceded in death by sisters, Irene Urban, Cecelia Baron; brother, Sigmund Chapello, and niece, Paulette Baron. Left to cherish her memory are loving nieces and nephews, Deanna Boling, Cynthia, McCabe, Candace Hoyt, Donald Baron, and Craig Chapello.

Memorial visitation will

begin in the David R. Jasin-Hoening Funeral Home, 5300 N. Summit St. (419-726-1583) on Monday, December 30, 2013, from 2-6 p.m. Memorial funeral services will

follow that same evening at 6 p.m. with Fr. James Auth

officiating. Interment will be private. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the donor's choice. Condolences for the family may be left at

My great aunt Isabelle was dedicated to healing. She had a great heart. I will always be greatful for her in my life! She and her sisters were definitely the smartest women I will ever know.

I was saddened to learn of Dr. Chapello's transition.I remember her as being a spark at many of our MOA meetings.Her love for Osteopathy was infectious.

Dr.Chapello was a joy to be with, a powerhouse of energy with a clear vision of good ethics in medicine and a champion of women. As a medical examiner, she taught me how to see abuse in misguided lawyers' defenses. God bless you, Izzy and rest in peace. You've done a great job.

Dr Chapello was a devoted no nonsense doctor who would do the right thing. She was selfless to a fault. She taught me by example medicine was calling not just a career. She was amazing. Rest in peace.

Dr, Chapello delivered both of my girls at Parkview Hospital, back in the late 1960's! As a very young mother, she was very kind and caring to me! I also remember her dog being a fixture in her office! I have thought of her often and have wondered how she was doing. Sad to see she is gone, but she will and is remembered!
