Charles R. Phillips USAF SS - Retired , 78 EAST WATERBORO -- Charles R. Phillips, 78, of East Waterboro, died August 27, 2009 at Maine Medical Center in Portland. He was born on April 24, 1931 in Cape Elizabeth, a son of Winfield and Eva (Crozier) Phillips and graduated from Portland High School. He served with distinction in the United States Air Force for over 22 years, receiving the Air Force Medal of Honor and many other commendations for his years of service. A longtime Ham Radio Operator, his call letters were K1GPI. He enjoyed computers, photography, cooking and building model airplanes. He is survived by his daughter, Shirley Goodwin of Lisbon Falls; two grandchildren, Matthew and Shannon Doiron; his brother, Raymond Phillips of So. Portland and his sister, Maryanne Foley of Limerick. He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Dorothea Phillips in 2006. Family and friends may call on Tuesday, Sept. 1st. from 6-8 p.m. at the Autumn Green Funeral Home, 47 Oak St., in Alfred, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Burial with full Military Honors will follow at the Pine Grove Cemetery South in Waterboro.
