I was of fan of his from General Hospital and I know he was an asset to the acting community. But my reason for posting is the obituary itself. It's simply fantastic. It makes us wish we had known not only Mr. Ingle but also his entire family personally. God bless you as you mourn.

John was my drama teacher at BHHS, beginning in 1965. To be sure, he was a force to be reckoned with: a man of boundless energy, wholly in charge, seemingly always sure of himself, and the ultimate decider of what was -- and wasn't -- good. It was wonderful to watch him cultivate kids who were serious about the arts, such as Joanna Hall, Helaine Lembeck, and Joel Pressman, and to hear Mr. Ingle talk about “kids of mine who are making it,” such as Richard Dreyfuss and Barbara Hershey. I also enjoyed watching him work with and encourage boys who hadn't acted or danced before. Even seeming clods from the football squad became graceful swans under his tutelage. The productions that I was a part of included the Mikado (G&S, 1885), The Madwoman of Chaillot (1943), and, if I'm not mistaken, The Rivals (Sheridan, 1775). (I remember "Mrs. Malaprop.") A pretty amazing repertoire by any teaching era's standards. My only regret is that I was too intimidated by Mr. Ingle -– believing that “inconsequentials” like me didn't matter to him -- to give him a hug and thank him before I evaporated into the mists of adulthood. Dear Ingle family, John was stationed in Patrol Squadron four while in the United States Navy, VP-4 has always been a unique organization. I personally was stationed in four different squadrons while in the Navy, but never saw the closeness of those of who served in VP-4. The fact that this squadron never lost any of it's special mystique over the years is a lasting tribute to people like John and those squadron member past and present who served in that organization. As we know John was a special person, and quite famous.(My kids knew who he was and loved his work.) But to all of his old shipmates he was a wonderful squadron mate and all of us will miss him.
If any of us can help you or offer any support we would gladly do so. All of Johns former VP-4 shipmates wish you the best in this time of sadness, however as we all know life goes on.
From all of John' former VP-4 shipmates. Mike and Gerry Turkington
