Dear Susan, Patty, Michael, Tim, and Boo,

I was very sorry to hear about Stephen. He seemed to have a perpetual smile…I know that he always made me smile. I have great memories of growing up with your family playing wiffle ball in the backyard as a little kid; and when we were older, the annual “Alice's Restaurant” on Thanksgiving night in your family's living room. I got to know Stephen better when I was a teenager and used to gawk at one of his buddies on the lifeguard stand while my girlfriend was gawking at him. We used to go to D'Jais on a Wednesday night so that she just might happen to “bump” into him. I'm sorry that the guy with the perpetual smile had to suffer through cancer. I know that he's smiling on all of us now as he's protecting little angels from floating too far from his lifeguard stand.

My condolences to all of you and your families, Dawn (Anderson) Conn

Dear Boo, Tim, Michael, Patty, and Susan

I just learned about Stephen's death and wanted to let you know that I am thinking of you all at this time. Stephen and I had a lot of fun growing up together in Spring Lake. He had a great zest for life in those days that occasionally got us into trouble, but that was the fun of it. I'll always remember playing hoop in your driveway, our lifeguard days together, the Erbe family living room sing alongs and the late night summer boat tours. I hope Stephen didn't suffer much in the end. I will keep him and all the Erbes in my thoughts and prayers during this sad time
Your old friend,
Tony.
