Rod Heinrich

Funeral for Rod Heinrich, 63, of Fairmont, MN will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 7, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Vis. 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sun., July 6, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Rod passed away Wednesday evening, July 2, 2014 in Fairmont.

He graduated from Fairmont High School in 1968. He earned a basketball scholarship to South Dakota State University where Rod helped lead the Jackrabbits to the Division II Elite 8 in 1971 and 1972. Rod earned his degree from SDSU in 1972. On June 29, 1974, Rod was united in marriage to Deb Cadwell in Mitchell, SD.

Survivors include his wife, Deb Heinrich of Fairmont; children, Jennifer Heinrich of Baltimore, MD, Jeffrey (Jen) Heinrich of Maple Grove, MN, and Justin Heinrich of Sioux Falls; grandson, Jackson; brothers, Les (Peggy) Heinrich of Fairmont, MN, and Roger (Sandra) Heinrich of Fairmont, MN; 3 step sisters; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-laws, Michael and Linda Cadwell of Sioux City, IA, Lori and Todd Thie of Sioux Falls, SD, Doug Cadwell of St. Paul, MN, Terryl Cadwell of Sioux Falls, SD, and Marlene and Rox Cooley of Brooklyn Center, MN; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Dear Deb & Family, You have my sympathy. I graduated from Delavan in 1971, so Rod was one of my hero's watching him play for Fairmont in Old District 5. I refereed some of Rod's games when he coached in Fairmont, he was a gentleman to work for. With us both in the same business, I always looked forward to our meeting each year where we would have lunch together and get caught up. He was a very special person. My prayers are with you.

Dear Deb and family,
Our sympathy goes out to all of you! God has definitely gained another angel in heaven. Our family is on vacation in Canada, and have been reminiscing about the great memories we have of times spent with all of you. The boys both commented on how many life lessons Rod taught them through the years of coaching them, the traveling tournaments, the sporting events, and just hanging out at your house. He truly was such an exceptional role model for them. We are so sorry that we will not be home to attend visitation or the funeral. Prayers and hugs to all of you! Dang it you bums,
This is something that is engrained in my head. Rod was a great coach and taught me so much about basektball and life. It was great hanging out with the family at games and when we went away to tournaments. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
