Ted S. Dahlstrom, 95, passed away peacefully at home with his family on Sunday, May 15, 2011. A 55-year resident of Anacortes, Ted raised his two children, Dennis and Karen, there alongside his loving wife of 61 years, Adeline, whom he survived in 2003. He had a love of Anacortes matched by few, walking daily around Washington Park and, in his relatively younger days, fishing for salmon throughout the islands. A graduate of the University of Washington, he worked for 25 years as a Medical Lab Technician and X-Ray Technician at the Anacortes Hospital. His career in health care came about after his service in the Army during World War II. He served his country with pride and honor, working at an Army hospital in India from 1942-45. Born in 1916, Ted spent his youth in Pettibone, North Dakota, a town, both then and now, of fewer than 100 residents. As a teenager, like so many Scandinavians he made his way out to Washington, where he met and married his beloved wife, Adeline, a nurse and graduate of Seattle University, in 1942. After living and working in the Renton area for several years, they relocated their young family to Anacortes in 1956, purchasing a large home on 9th Street. Ted spent more than 50 years in that home, raising his family with Adeline and tending to his large garden with his prized tomatoes. Ted was a devout Lutheran, attending the Anacortes Lutheran church every Sunday. He was also a passionate Mariners fan, whose games became the center of his day. He always wished for more Mariners victories than he was given, but baseball was his favorite sport so the game itself was reward enough. Baseball, however, became a distant second priority to his family, especially his five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, who gave him immense pride and happiness. Ted is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Wendy Dahlstrom of Anacortes; daughter, Karen Brusher of Acme; grandsons and spouse, Ted Dahlstrom of Washington, DC, Noah and Sun Young Dahlstrom of Seoul, South Korea, Eric and Kartina Carabba of Acme, WA; granddaughters and spouses, Serenity and Gary Ward of the suburbs of Memphis, TN, and Maria Brusher of Seattle; great-grandchildren Roan and Una Carabba of Acme, WA, and Ayden and Kiley Ward of Memphis, TN. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 3, 2011 at the Anacortes Lutheran Church followed by a reception at the church. Memorial donations may be made in honor of Ted to the American Diabetes Association, P.O Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312 or online at
