June 15, 1941 - May 17, 2016 Charlotte Phillips Lee, age 74, of Birmingham, AL, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, May 17, 2016. She was a loving mother, sister, and friend, but most importantly, her passion was her grandchildren. She was called Grandmommy by some and GranGran by others, but she loved each and every one of them with all of her heart. Charlotte had a wonderful sense of humor and was strong in her commitment to her children and their families. She was predeceased by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John W. Phillips, Sr. Survivors include Charlotte's two daughters, Michele Morris (Philip) and Jenni Goolsby (Jim); one son, Phillip Lee (Kim); seven grandchildren, Laura Lee Grusin (Adam), Garrett Lee, Tanner Lee, Melissa Morris, John Curtis Goolsby, Marshall Lee, and Isabelle Goolsby; one great-grandchild, Elijah Grusin; one brother, John W. Phillips, Jr. (Pam); uncles; aunts; one niece, Nancy Phillips; and several cousins. Visitation will be 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, May 20, 2016 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. The private family graveside service will be Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Crestwood Cemetery in Gadsden, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the charity of your choice.

I was so sad to read of Charlotte's death in the Birmingham News. I had the pleasure of working with Charlotte for several years at what is now Starnes Davis Florie law firm. We shared many grandchildren stories - I had a few more than she did as I am 6 years older but what fond, good memories I have of sharing an office with her. I missed her so much when she retired. Please know that you are all in my heart and prayers as you grieve the loss of your wonderful mother and grandmother.

Charlotte Lee was a very loving and supportive person. I had the pleasure of working with her at two law firms and she was such a hard working and helpful co-worker. Her dry wit was unmatched. What I loved most about her, is her devotion to the people she loved. Her children and her grandchildren made her so proud. Great kids who have raised great kids. She was such a loving and supportive friend, as well. Losing, what is, in reality, a force of nature, is hard. And when that force of nature is your mother, it's even more difficult. Sending up prayers for strength, comfort and peace to Phillip, Michele and Jenni. We lost one of the great ones on May 17th. I love you, Charlotte Lee. Please save me a seat !!

I didn't know Charlotte well - I believe I met her just once but, her brother Johnny Phillips is a long time friend of mine and I knew Charlotte's mom, Mrs. Phillips and judging from the class act people they are/were, I'm sure that Charlotte was also. I pray God's peace and comfort on all the Lee and Phillips' family at this time.
