I would personally like to thank your family for sharing Cerea with his family at UPS. I saw him in Louisville the last night here on earth. His smile, kindness, southern hospitality will forever live in my heart and the hearts of so many he came in contact with. Gone too soon but never, ever forgotten.
Respectfully,

My brother Ba Bruh. I looked forward to our reintroduction and recall the talk we had prior to you taking off for this very flight. You spoke of your family and sent pictures of your children, to which you stated being very proud of. I miss the talks and not getting to know my older brother for the great man I know he was.

Potato Salad and the measure of a man.
A wise man once told me, “If you want to see the true measure of a man, have some potato salad.” Because eventually, everyone will end up at a dinner after a funeral eating potato salad at a friend's house, reflecting back on the ceremony just witnessed representing the measure of some man's entire life. And one would do well to remember that one day, someone will be eating potato salad reflecting back on our own short lives, as the river of everyman's life rapidly flows homeward towards the ocean of its creation.
Today was a potato salad day. As I stood before a flag draped casket, holding the mere shell that once contained my friend, I turned rearward toward the pews, and my eyes beheld the measure of this particular man; A primarily African-American Church filled to bursting capacity, with souls of hundreds of friends black, white and brown, all filled with the same emotions of love and sorrow for the grieving family members, and a sad joy for our mutual friend who has been called home far too early from our sheltered and incomplete perspective.
Sadness and joy, weeping and smiling, crying and laughing, all of the emotions that make up a man's life were present and flowing freely. A true celebration of a life well lived, and of a man who loved his family and his maker. The seed of love planted in this man by his maker had yielded a bountiful harvest of fruit, and as the harvest of fruit has a season, so this man had his season, and now that his work was complete, I am certain he would be well pleased with the abundant fruits of his harvest.
Everything has a season. One would do well do remember such every day. When found in our own season of autumn, will we look back at our harvest with regrets? Or will we look back at the fruits of our harvest and think “I am well pleased and all is well with my soul” ?

To the Beal family and extended community of friends he developed wherever he went. I am deeply sadden by the tragic death of my dear longtime friend Cerea Beal. As United States Marines, Cerea and I were roommates abroad the USS Saipan during a Mediterranean Deployment. He always reached for the heavens and never allowed failure to enter his vocabulary. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. As you seek comfort in the days ahead, I remind you of Jesus' words to His disciples as He anticipated His death, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in Me. My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with Me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” -John 14:1-4 Reverend Derrell Wade, Major USMC(Ret)

Dear Darla and family
My memory of Cerea goes back to the days a rag tag group of Piedmont Airlines agents were thrown together at the end of the world, that would later become "D & C concourses. Our job was to work the commuters that now flew the Piedmont colors. During that time we (the group) became a close knit family. We would watch as our lives changed and unfolded before us. Darla, your story was one of the success's. I still can see you light up when you would speak of him. As in your own words " Cerea is my knight in shining armor " He will continue in that role in your memories. One day you will walk hand and hand with him again. Until that day remember this.
"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the people and the moments that take our breath away"
And that he did!
We wish you Gods blessing and may his grace fill your heart always.
All our love;
Mark, Karen and Alexandra

Darla, Dane, Sarah and family,
I first met Cerea more than 20 years ago, when he first began flying for UPS. He will always be remembered there for his gentle nature, his contagious smile, and above all, for the abiding love he had for you, his dear family. There are no words anyone can offer to diminish the pain of your loss, but please know that my family, as well as the many pilots lucky enough to have known Cerea, are grieving beside you over this unspeakable tragedy. Please accept our condolences. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

So very, very sorry. There are no words to describe or explain the tragedy, loss and sorrow. Please know that all of us who worked with Cerea hurt and grieve along with you all.
I pray that over time the grief will be replaced by fond memories, comforting thoughts and the assurance of a joyous re-union when...
...He will wipe away every tear from your eyes, and death will not exist any more - or mourning, or crying, or pain...

I have wonderful memories of flying with Cerea during our years at UPS. What an uplifting man to have spent time with on the ground and in flight!
Please know that he was so VERY proud of his wife and children, that we didn't talk of other things until we briefed each other on what was new with the other's family first thing !
Always smiling, always chuckling, always upbeat with that distinctive outlook of his .. " Life is good, isn't it, Chuck ?" I can hear his voice as I write the words he spoke to me often.
Speak of him often in the time to come...allow the memories to speak for him...may you laugh heartily with him and cry longingly for him... and remember him well in this way.
When he is remembered in thought, he remains alive in our heart !
May you enjoy peace

Dear Darla and family,
To fly with Cerea, or just to see him in the crew room (and seeing his infectious smile) was always an uplifting and pleasant experience. He was a sharp pilot, and his enthusiasm for doing a job well done (I could tell he was a Marine), made working with him not "work". May his life be a blessing in your hearts, slowly diminishing the pain of his loss more and more through the fondness of memories, lessons-shared, and appreciation for all he was to you.

May that love sustain and uplift you all now and always.
