Arthur Williams, Sr. Obituary

Arthur John Williams, Sr., born October 31, 1922, passed away at his home in Redondo Beach surrounded by family and loved ones on October 22, 2010. He leaves a legacy of two sons, Arthur, Jr. (Kathyrn) and James (Deanna); 6 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. Born in Los Angeles, Art was a life-long resident of the South Bay and graduated from Redondo Union High School in 1946. Art served as a Staff Sergeant in the US Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater in the 233rd Anti-Aircraft Artillery Searchlight Battalion. He married Clara Lucille Lake on February 3, 1951. They were married for 37 years and he lovingly cared for her during her long illness. Art parlayed his love for cars and all things mechanical into a successful auto-electric business. He ran the operation on Torrance Boulevard in Redondo Beach until 1957. He then joined the Redondo Beach Fire Department, serving as master mechanic in addition to his duties as a fireman until he retired in 1977. He enjoyed camping with his family in Big Sur, vacationing with friends, and was a lifetime member of the Redondo Beach Elks Lodge #1378. Family was everything to Art and he constantly worked hard to support and care for them all. He will be missed for his quick wit, dry sense of humor, and his unending generosity. The family is extremely grateful for the loving care provided by Mely and Minerva and the entire MHCS Caregivers team. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to MHCS c/o P.O. Box 4222, Redondo Beach, CA 90277. Please sign the guest book at www.dailybreeze.com/obits or visit www.lafuneral.com for additional details.

Artie was a friend and coworker for many years. An excellent mechanic and an all around good workmate. Dependable in danger.

O'B and I had many good times with your parents in the "old" days. O'B had a great deal of respect for your Dad. My family and I send you our regards and sympathy.
