Joel Taylor, Jr. Obituary

Joel passed away September 27, 2010 at his home in San Pedro. He was born March 21, 1925 in San Pedro and Joel was the third of four children born to Joel H. Taylor, Sr. and Helen Lewis Taylor. He was a native and lifetime resident of San Pedro. Joel was a Navy veteran of WWII. He was a member of the Retail Clerks Union Local 905 and was a member of the Bethel Tabernacle Church of God in Christ in Venice. Joel had a pilot's license and loved to go flying in his spare time. He is survived by his daughter, Melvia Taylor; son, Todd (Maria) Taylor, both of San Pedro; sister, Marcella T. Hardy of Washington DC; grandchildren, Jonathan, Denise, Michael, Todd, Jr., Danny, Angel, Victoria, James and Daisee Taylor; 8 great-grandchildren; his companion, Bevalena Redd; and her 2 sons, Walter and Phillip Redd; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be on Thursday, 1-8 pm at McNerney's Mortuary. A memorial luncheon will be held on Friday, 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, 225 S. Mesa Street, San Pedro, CA.
