Bettie Ann Sipe

Bettie Ann Sipe, 73, of Buckingham, died on Monday, December 26, 2011, at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville. She was born on August 25, 1938, in Nelson County, the daughter of the late Elsie Wells. She was married to the late Earl Henry Sipe, who preceded her in death on November 22, 2007.

Mrs. Sipe was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she devoted much of her time to them. She was retired from Sprint (now Century Link) in Charlottesville, where she had worked for many years and had also worked for Acme Visible Records in Crozet for several years. She had formerly attended Brown's Cove United Methodist Church in Crozet.

In addition to her mother and husband, Bettie was preceded in death by a son, Steven Duncan; and a daughter, Patsy Sipe.

Survivors include six children, Gary Sipe and wife, Stephanie, of Crozet, Corbin Gunsallus and wife, Diane, of Charlottesville, Jeffrey Gunsallus and wife, Marcia, of Scottsville, Joan Wynn of Kents Store, Gail Murphy and husband, William, of Richmond, and Rochelle Sipe of Buckingham; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren; two brothers, Ronnie Wells of Staunton and Donnie Wells of Batesville; a niece; a nephew; and a host of friends and extended family. A funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2011, at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home in Scottsville with Pastor Keith Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Rockfish Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Nelson County.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.

The family would like to give special thanks to Corbin and Jeff Gunsallus for all of their love and care that they showed their mother and to her granddaughter, Amy Snow for taking such wonderful care of her. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bettie's name to the Charlottesville - Albemarle SPCA, 3355 Berkmar Drive, Charlottesville, VA 22901-1491.
