Edward B. Miska

Former Staunton and Charlottesville resident, Edward B. Miska, 91, of McDonough, Georgia, died on Monday, September 6, 2010, at home after a long illness.

He was born on January 15, 1919, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, the son of the late John Frank and Mary Adelaide Miska. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Margaret Hodulik Miska, and was the last surviving member of his generation in the family.

He attended Rutgers University and was certified in and pioneered artificial insemination of cattle in the United States. He was retired from Smith's Transfer Corporation and was an active member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Staunton.

Ed and his wife, Margaret, were best known as the proprietors of Miska's Antique Workshop in downtown Staunton, and fine antique restoration, which was their passion in retirement.

Surviving are nine children, Margaret May of Lynchburg, Virginia, Mary Skummer of McDonough, Georgia, and with whom he resided for the past 10 years, Jean Long and her husband, George, of Stanardsville, Virginia, Janet Maupin and her husband, William McDermott, of Rochelle, Virginia, Edward Miska of Waynesboro, Virginia, John Miska of Barboursville, Virginia, Sue Miska of Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, Joseph Miska of Staunton, Virginia, and Robert Miska of Staunton, Virginia; 16 grandchildren; 19 great- grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are quick to say that Ed was a fine old gentleman, loved and well respected by all who knew him.

A private inurnment is planned for September 17, 2010.
