I first met Emmett (or Buddy as he was known then) in the second grade at Red Hill Elementary School. My family moved and I didn't see Emmett again until high school. I remember his help got me through Biology class. I'll never forget his antics each day on the school bus. You brought much sunshine.

It is with the greatest sadness that I just discovered Emmett's passing. I was just Googling and using the spokeo web site trying to look up old friends and found Emmett had passed.
In the late 60's I met Emmett and Lani
at Marshall University through one of their friends. They both made a lasting difference in my life.
I last saw Emmett when he returned from Vietnam where he and some of his
friends told stories of their experiences at my place through the night. This was in the early 70's.
I'm amused by the irony of Emmett being referred to as a Renaissance Man
as my friends dubbed me an Appalachian-American Bohemian Renaissance Man some time ago.
Prayers & Brightest Blessings my old friend. I was sooo hoping to meet up with you again after all the years and tell you of the progress I've made with the things you inspired me to try.

He was a kind friend. I will miss him as will others. Here are some comments from a few of his on-line friends at one of the Forums he was a big part of.

Leftoverdj, as he was known on Handloads.com, will be missed by many he never had the opportunity to meet in person. His knowledge was respected and appreciated by all and will surely create a void in our experiences.
On this day, Veteran's Day 2010, we salute Emmett's life and his service for the benefit of our nation.

I knew Emmett at Marshall University. He was a wonderful storyteller and writer who regaled his friends with stories while playing bridge. He was the most interesting person I ever knew. I miss him already.-- Marcia Booth

A beautiful obituary for an extraordinary man. He was one of a kind--one of the brightest, most original, and most generous-spirited people I've ever known. I'm proud to have been a part of his family.
