Harry Jackson Smith III

Harry Jackson Smith III, 59, of Crozet, passed away at his home on Friday, January 13, 2012.

He was born on October 15, 1952, in Charlottesville, the son of Harry Jackson Smith Jr. and the late Doris Marshall Smith. Harry was an accomplished builder and carpenter. He was always generous with his family and friends especially at Christmas. He enjoyed spectator sports on television. Harry graduated from James Madison University with a degree in Business Administration and proudly served in the United States Army. He is survived by one sister, Sharon Lloyd of Charlottesville; two brothers, Gary Smith of Charlottesville, and Robert Smith of Forest, Virginia; one sister-in-law, Mary Smith; two nieces, Courtney Hall and her husband, Billy, of Bristol, and Allie Payne and her husband, Eric, of Charlottesville; a great- niece, London Payne; two uncles, Walter A. Marshall and his wife, Evelyn, of Lynchburg, Virginia, and Robert F. Marshall and his wife, Nancy, of Lynchburg, Virginia. A funeral service will be held 6 p.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at Hill and Wood Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Margaret Gillette officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 6 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions be made to the Habitat for Humanity or to a favorite charity. Friends may send condolences to the family online.

Rodney and I have such fond memories of Harry and the "good old days". He was such a gentle and kind soul and will be missed by all of us. The memorial service was a wonderful tribute to him and to his family.

Harry was very special to my sibilings and I! He was so great to my brothers Reed & Will! I will never forget how special Harry always made Christmas for us, he would come in the middle of thenight and drop off presents, tons of them! He would bring us candy and junk food atleast once a week. He was a great guy and he will be missed so much! Prayers to the Smith family!
