Jack Eisenthal

Jack Eisenthal, 89, died peacefully on Thursday, September 9, 2010.

He was born on June 8, 1921, in the Bronx, New York, the son of Sam and Dora Eisenthal. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myra Eisenthal; and his daughter, Robin McCarty.

He is survived by his daughter, Geri Schirmer and husband, Dr. Bruce Schirmer; a granddaughter, Kate Lynn Nemett and her husband, Adam Nemett; a granddaughter, Liza Schirmer and her fiance, Zach Rubenoff; and a grandson, Brian McCarty.

Jack, known to many as "Pop", will be remembered for his winning smile, bright blue eyes and gentle ways. He served proudly in World War II. He and Myra owned a small five and dime store in New Jersey for many years before retiring to Florida.

In 1989, he moved to Charlottesville to join his family, and we are grateful to have had him be a part of our lives. He was a member of Congregation Beth Israel. Pop loved the Yankees, all University of Virginia sports, especially Woman's Basketball, and big band music. Most of all, he was so proud of his wonderful grandchildren and loved being with his family.

There will be a memorial service at Hill and Wood Funeral Home, 3 p.m. Sunday, September 12, 2010, with Rabbi Daniel Alexander officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to Innisfree Village, 5505 Walnut Level Road, Crozet, VA 22932.

Friends may send condolences to the family at www.hillandwood.com.
