Ruth L. Douglas

Ruth L. Douglas, 78, of Charlottesville, Virginia, departed quietly from this life on Saturday, November 13, 2010, at her home.

She was born May 7, 1932, in Albemarle County, to the late Lindsey Quarles and Ella Quarles Lewis. She was the widow of Peyton Douglas.

Mrs. Douglas was a member of the Rose Hill Baptist Church of Simeon, Virginia.

She leaves to cherish her memory six sons, Welford, Clayton, Paul L. and Bryant Douglas, all of Charlottesville, Nathan P. of Alexandria, Virginia, and Keith L. Douglas of Fluvanna, Virginia; five daughters, Matilda Johnson and her husband, Earl W., of Greene County, Pauline Moore and her husband, Leonard S., Ann Carter and her husband, George A., both of Charlottesville, Virginia, Glenda Mays and her husband, Edward, of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Karen M. Douglas of Woodbridge, Virginia; two sisters, Sarah Ragland of Falls Church, Virginia, and Arlene Brown of Boston, Massachusetts; one brother--in-law, Percy Brown; one sister-in-law, Marjorie Quarles; 24 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; four close family friends, James Martin, Bonnie Breeden, Lori Allen, and Lucinda Perrineau; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, November 20, 2010, at Rose Hill Baptist Church in Simeon, Virginia, with Pastor Jeffrey O. King officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Johns Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Friday, November 19, 2010, at J. F. Bell Funeral Home.
