I worked for Shyr-te in his lab, and just saw this news of his passing, and am very sad. He did have a unique zest for science, and his enthusiasm was infectious. I will remember how he taught me to do splenectomy's, and how he loved basketball. After his lab, I went on to get my PhD, part of which was due to his enthusiasm for science.

Shyr-Te was a dear friend and colleague of mine for over 30 years. I learned more immunology from him than from any 10 other immunologists I know combined. And he was the toughest competitor I knew. I only wish that we could play just one more game of one-on-one.
