Although this is a late entry, it comes with the same message as those that have preceded mine: Ted Keats was a gentleman and a scholar. Combined with his wonderful sense of humor and his kindness, those attributes add up to describe one of the best radiologists of his time. I was very fortunate to have known him and to have benefited from his hard work. His book sits on my desk in New Zealand and I know that I have a friend beside me. How wonderful to have left a legacy, embracing family, friends, colleagues, and trainees, that will carry on his philosophy and his love of life.
I'll treasure his stories...

Dear Patt and family,
My most heartfelt sympathy goes out to you. I will always cherish the time I spent with Ted and Jack Edeiken as they were the 2 most influential people in my academic career. Ted was special to me as a friend and mentor. I will never forget him . He will always be with me whenever I open up his "Normal Variants" book.

An incredible man and a true pleasure to spend time with. He taught us to recognize the normal as well as the abnormal and also to not be narrow in our focus. I will miss him.

Dear Patt.
My sincere condoleances.Ted had an amazing emotional intelligence. This is exceedingly rare in a world of gifted academics. This is what made him special.
I will always remember what he told me when writing a recommendation letter. He said:"say better things than you believe, because people will turn out better than you are able to know".
He knew.

Mrs. Keats and Ian,
You have lost a husband and father and there are no words that I can find to properly express my sorrow for your loss. I first met Dr. Keats when I began working in the film room in 1981. Years later I returned to school and worked with him as an x-ray tech. He was a very patient and kind teacher who unselfishly shared his knowledge and expertise. He left big boots to fill and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. You and your family are in my prayers.

On behalf of Dr. Keats, it was an honor and a privilege to run the Keats Society for the past six year. In doing so I was able to really get to know Ted. He had a knack for making you feel special and appreciated. I will especially miss his witty sense of humor and that wonderful smile – a smile that could light up a room. What a gentleman he was. I will see to it that his legacy will live on in the Department of Radiology at UVA.

To the family of Dr. Keats: Dr. Keats played a big part in my diagnosis. Whenever he saw me, he would always stop and ask me how was I doing and what was happening with my health issues. Dr. Keats was a caring man and a GREAT RADIOLOGIST. He will always be remembered. My deepest sympathy goes out to you all.

Dearest Patt,
Dr. Keats was an amazing Chairman and friend to all of us. He went over and beyond for his techs. I remember the time you both took me to a Specialist in Richmond after I hurt my back at work. Who else would have cared enough? This was the kind of man he was, and will be remembered for. His caring nature and love for all people.

We all miss him so.

Dear Patt & Bradley:
I am so sorry for your loss. I do feel fortunate to have met/known Ted, if only for a short time. He was the type of person that it only took a couple minutes in his company to realize what a warm, gentle, loving man he was. He handled his illness with such dignity and courage. And I was priviledged to see how very deeply he loved (and still loves) you both. May God's peace be with you at this difficult time and always.

Dear Patt and Bradley,
My deepest sympathies. Ted meant so much to me. He encouraged me to become faculty here and hired me almost 20 years ago. He gave me the opportunity to achieve a very full phase of my life academically at the University of Virginia and from the life experiences I gained while living in Charlottesville. He positively influenced so many lives around him through his warmth and genuine caring of others lives. He is very appreciated and missed. Gia DeAngelis Charlottesville Virginia

Dear Patt and Bradley,
Deepest sympathies are with you. The world and our family have lost an incredible man. No one can make cricket sounds like Ted. Ted (gracious and so refined) could fit into any crowd and make people feel at ease. Take your shoes off so he could look at your feet. Oh, he is going to be missed so much by his colleagues and family. I am so lucky to have had him as a brother-in law.
