Thomas Woodson Obituary

Published by Daily Progress from Nov. 8 to Nov. 10, 2009.
Thomas F. Woodson III, 38, of Charlottesville, known to all who loved him as "Tom", left his earthly home on Thursday, November 5, 2009, after a 32 year battle with diabetes, to be greeted in eternity with his Lord and Savior.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 16 years, Angie Woodson; and his baby girl, Daisy, who loved and watched over her daddy every night. Tom also leaves behind his mother, Joyce L. Woodson; his father and mother-in-law, Ronnie and Wanda Layne of Crozet; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Michael and Ann "Rocky" Lowe of Lake Monticello; sister-in-law, Amanda "Mandy" Loeser Forbes of North Garden; nieces, Avery, Sadie and Maddie; and nephew, London.

Tom was preceded in death by his father, Thomas "Fred" Woodson Jr.; his paternal grandparents, Thomas F. Woodson Sr., and Rose Woodson Davis; his maternal grandparents, James E. and Louise J. Lamb.

Also left to cherish his memory are numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, and his parking and corner family that he loved so much. He had two special cousins, MacKenzie Payne of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and Keena Katzenback of Raleigh, North Carolina; and numerous special friends.

Tom was a 1989 graduate of Charlottesville High School and was a member of First Baptist Church, where he mentored youth in the Upward Basketball Program and was formerly a second grade Sunday school teacher. Tom was an amputee and loved to share his experience to help others cope with limb loss. He was the parking manager for Piedmont Virginia Parking Center, a job that he loved very much. Tom was a huge University of Virginia Football fan and loved his Cavaliers; he will always be remembered in his orange and blue.

A special thanks to Dr. Barbara Post, Dr. Shepard Hurwitz, Dr. James Tiedeman, and Mary Grant, C.P.; all of you helped to keep him here to touch lives. Thank you also to the MICU staff at the University of Virginia Medical Center, for all your compassion in Tom's last moments.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, November 9, 2009, at First Baptist Church.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 10, 2009, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Tom Leland officiating. Burial will follow immediately at Monticello Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation, P.O. Box 1131, Fairfax, VA 22038-1131 or to the SPCA, P.O. Box 7047, Charlottesville, VA 22906.

Friends may send condolences to the family at www.hillandwood.com.

Angie, Tom will be forever missed on 14th St. I will miss all the jokes.
comments, and pranks he so enjoyed
playing on Rhonda and I. My last memory
of Tom was seeing him standing in the doorway at his office, a sheepish grin
on his face, teasing me about my Halloween costume. He was a inspi
ration to all who knew him.
Love and Sympathy to you and Daisy

Angie, I'm so sorry (and shocked) to hear about Tom. I can't imagine what you're going through right now. He was absolutely hilarious and you guys were just a fantastic couple. I'll cherish those cold nights playing softball with Tom while you cheered us on! What a tragedy to lose someone so special. I'm just sorry we didn't get together since I saw you two in May. Just know that you're in our prayers and we're here if you need anything.

I went to school with Tom early on in life before he moved away. I stayed in touch with him recently on the computer. I was deeply saddened by the news if his passing. He will be missed by many people from his past who had befriended him on Facebook. May God be with your family during this difficult time.

Angie, I was so very sorry to learn of Tom's passing. I only knew him a short while, when we all worked at Brendle's back in the day for about 3 years. You and Tom have often been in my thoughts all these years. I'm so sorry that we didn't get a chance to reconnect. He will be missed and you both will still and forever be fondly in my thoughts and prayers. Rest well Tom.
Much love.

Hey Angie, So sorry to hear about Tom. I know you guys had been through alot with Toms' health but I thought he was doing better. I lost my Dad in April so I can relate a little. No words will ever make you feel better and time only helps a little. Remember you made alot of freinds out there and don't be afraid to call on them when you need to talk. Hope to see you soon, Stacy and Christina Roach.
