Our Daughter was the same age as Gibby and went to the same Kindergarden. How delightful for our daughter when Mr. Peppermint drove the children. He was especially kind the day President Kennedy was killed. He told the children their Mothers would have a
surprise for them when he let them out of the car. All three children watched the show and Doris they remember you taking them over the bumps in the road. So happy you were a part of our lives. Our sincerest sympathy to all. Catharine & Noble

I worked with Jerry at WFAA-TV in the early 1970's. I was young and Jerry went out of his way to help me feel comfortable in that big city newsroom environment. Please know that he was an inspiration and great friend to me.

Gibby and Family-
How I missed this news of Jerry's death too late to attend the Memorial Saturday is SO frustrating -- but my thoughts and condolences are with you all today. News reached me this morning via a Woodrow Wilson email blast.

Jerry was ALWAYS kind and warm and interested in me and my family, and touched so many of us growing up in Lake Highlands. He was and will remain a SPECIAL part of my development and life as a young person. What a Dad!!! What a Man!!!

Years go by us, and we get snippits of each others whereabouts here and there. I hope to talk soon with you Gibby.

In the meantime... please know that I am sad today thinking of Jerry's death... and my memories and feelings for him as one of Dallas' great persons will always be present in my heart. Of course, I feel the same for you Gibby!!

My love goes out to the entire Haynes family. Jerry left an impact on thousands, and for those of us who were privileged to know him, we couldn't help but love him.

Deepest Sympathies,

Don Snowden

To the Friends and Family of Jerry "Mr. Peppermint" Haynes:

Even as an adult I enjoyed watching his show and having a great giggle! His show was always refreshing and entertaining.

Every time Mother and I went to Luby's Cafeteria on Mockingbird Lane, I would scan the cafeteria to see if he was there. Several times I had the pleasure of going to his table and chatting with him and his lovely wife for a few moments.

Few may remember him in "The Fantastics." I remember getting to congratulate him on a wonderful show.

Mr. Peppermint, you will be greatly missed . . . and always loved!

Dear Haynes family and all of Jerry's Dallas area friends...certainly we remember Mr. Peppermint as kids in the 50's. Growing up in Oak Cliff, all of us kids watched every days. It was nice to see Jerry in several other TVshowes over the years. He is certainly a lifetime memory for me.

Soft spoken, always smiling Jerry Haynes was a real Tribute to his
Profession. Channel 8 can be proud of the many friends that "Mr.Peppermint" "raised" for the Station. Proudly, my two children appeared on his Program twice each and had a great time.

Jerry was my friend and he will be missed by so many. But he left a Legacy of love and caring............which we all appreciate!

May God Bless Jerry and the Family.

Dear Haynes family,
My sister and I were raised in the Dallas area and enjoyed Mr. Peppermint so much! I know he was multi-talented as well. I still tease friends when they have a cold as sounding like Muffin.
Thanks for a lifetime of memories!

Dear Haynes family, Thank you so much for sharing your husband, father, PePaw with the Dallas/Ft Worth, Texas area. What a treasure he is and was to many of us who raise our children watching Mr. Peppermint and Muffin. Those are days and memories not forgotten. What a gift he had for sharing his wit and wisdom so our kids, (and us parents), could really "get it". I will be praying for your family. What a special place Heaven is now and I know you will see him again. May God, the comforter, hold you all tightly. In His Grip, Judy

I was deeply saddened to hear about his passing. I hadn't thought about Mr. Peppermint in years, but I know I wouldn't be the same man I am without him. The idea of what is right and what is wrong is too vague on tv now. This amazing person taught us better.

Thanks for having those conversations with me all those mornings. They paid off. I only wish I'd had the pleasure of getting to know the ribald and mischievous man behind the costume whom I've also grown to admire as an adult.

Mr.Haynes program was a big part of my childhood. It is really too bad that children do not have that type of program to watch today. Thank you Mr. Haynes for helping me be the person that I am today. You will be fondly remembered and greatly missed. Rest In Peace Mr. Haynes

I met Jerry one evening at SMU with a group called THE SEASONED PLAYERS. We read plays, sang songs and presented an original play at SMU about a nursing home for the aged. He was a wonderful man, and I am glad I got to meet such a careing person. Alice Mayo, Plano TX

I eagerly watched Mr. Peppermint every afternoon and delighted in his exuberance and positive messages. I especially enjoyed his conversations with all the characters: Mr. Wiggly Worm, Jingles the Dragon, the Captain. I was thrilled when I learned that I shared the same name with his daughter. I am so grateful for his wonderful family entertainment which spanned decades. I finally met Mr. Peppermint about ten years ago and he was the "real deal," just as gracious and kind in person as he was on his television show. My condolences to his family. May you have comfort in knowing how many of us were truly blessed by the gift of Mr. Peppermint's presence in our homes for so many years.

I have a pretty vivid memory of the first time Jerry came on to Julies cooking show from behind the camera. It really got me interested in being involved in this fairly new media. My mother said I needed to try something that would make some money. I have been sorry for 60 years I did not follow my feelings.
Jerry was a Dallas ICON and a good guy. I hope and think he had a good fun life

Mr. Peppermint was much beloved by a generation of children as well as their parents. I treasure photos of him with my children at Six Flags and I have kept a photo of him with my granddaughter on my refrigerator for years and it always brings me such joy as I remember the many years that he made our days brighter. Rest in peace, Mr. Peppermint.

Dear Mr. Peppermint, thank you so much for wonderful childhood memories of spending each morning with you before starting a day of a childhood when things were still so simple and easy. Your easy going style and positive attitude go with me today and one that I am trying to pass on to my own grandchild. I know you are in heaven this morning entertaining all the sweet children there along with Mr. Wiggly Worm and Muffin. I will miss you dearly.

When my son was 6 (he is now in his 40') we went to see Mr. Pepperment at a local mall. As we were walking to the place to see him low and behold Mr. Pepperment came strolling up. My son ran over took his hand and walked the mall with him. Mr. Pepperment was so kind to him, did not pull away just kept on talking to a very proud 6 year old.
