Clark Akers Obituary

Our Dad, Clark D. Akers, passed away peacefully at his home in Calhan on Friday June 17th, 2011. He was 88. Clark was born to Florence and Clarence Akers in Nevada, IA where he and his brother Max (proceeded in death) were raised by his Aunts, Lua and LaJune Akers. After graduating from Nevada High School, Clark joined the Army Air Corps, 328th AAF Unit in Gulfport, MS where he earned his wings as a B-17 pilot. Clark also earned numberous medals as a sharpshooter and a degree as a Mechanical Draftsman. In 1944 he married our Mom, Wathena Jackson, in a small army chapel in Liberal, KS. The Akers family lived in Marshalltown, IA until 1968 when they made Colorado their home. Clark enjoyed a 30 (plus) year career in Automotive sales and we teased him to open a car lot of his own "Honest Clark's Used Cars." He had a great love for humor and an even greater love for Wathena "Phena" who proceeded him in death in November of 2000, they were married 56 years. Clark is survived by son Mike (Dorothy) Akers, daughters Suzi (Bill) Akers and Jane (Steve) Akers-Schulze, grandchildren Levi, J.T., Eli, Jenny, Charlie, Brianna, Benjamin (proceeded in death), Cory and Kip. Clark's most recent great-grandchild, Ben, was born in April totaling 6 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Sarah Ball of Cave Junction, OR. Clark loved camping, fishing, flying and his family. He expecially enjoyed making his secret recipe homemade ice cream for family gatherings. Clark recently passed his secret recipe to his grandson, Kip, and his ice cream maker to his granddaughter, Jenny. We'll be expecting dessert soon kids!!! Dad we love and miss you so much already. Rest in peace and thank you for your service to our country. Please join us for a memorial celebration of Clark D. Akers life at Calhan's United Methodist Church Thursday at 1pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Clark's friends at the United Methodist Church of Calhan.
