Roger Rice Obituary
Hickory Tavern
Deputy Roger Dale Rice, Jr., 29, of the Hickory Tavern Community, and husband of Stacy Bagwell Rice, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2011, while protecting our community in the line of duty.
Born in Greenville, he was a son of Roger Dale Rice, Sr. and Debra Haag Rice of Hickory Tavern. Roger was a faithful and courageous deputy with the Laurens County Sherriff's Office. In addition to his work, he loved spending time with his family. He was a loving father and a devoted husband.
Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are two children, Kristin Rice and Austin Rice, both of the home; two half-sisters, Lisa Rice of Simpsonville, and Tracy Rice of Lancaster; and maternal grandparents, Dorothy R. Haag of Ward, and William F. Haag, Sr. of Minnesota.
Funeral services will be 3:00 pm, Sunday, July 17, 2011, at Laurens First Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Dr. Marcus Bishop with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery with full Law Enforcement Honors.
The family will receive friends at The Kennedy Mortuary from 5:00-7:00 pm on Saturday.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall see God. My sympathy goes out to the Rice family. A law enforcement officer for 30 years,I feel a loss each time one of our brothers lays down his or her life while protecting others.May God make smooth the path before you in the days ahead. I'm still in shock about what happened to Deputy Rice. Roger is my favorite cousin ever. I love and adore him so much. He always took up for me as I did nothing wrong in his eyes. I am so proud of him for becoming a police officer and I'm grateful for his service and sacrifice he made for the community. He is truly a hero. My heart breaks for Stacy and their precious babies as well as his sweet parents-- my aunt and uncle. However, Roger went to join his beloved brother, Slugger, in heaven. Roger will be dearly missed.
