Dorothy Mae (Scott) (Worth) Francis

Dorothy Mae Francis passed away January 16, 2011, peacefully, although much too soon, in Scottsdale, Arizona with family by her side. She is now arranging the 1st Annual Scott-Larson Family Reunion in Heaven. Dorothy was born November 4, 1940, to William Henry (Bill/Scotty) Scott and Evelyn Mae (Nettum) Scott in Volga, South Dakota. In 1943 the family moved to Anacortes, Washington, so Bill and Evelyn could help Dorothy's grandparents, Frank D. and Katherine Larson Scott run the Roxy Cafe on Commercial Street (now the Christian bookstore).
Dorothy was active in school, Anacortes Lutheran Church and was an active and ranking member in Rainbow Girls. In 1959 she was appointed as Grand Representative of the Grand Assembly of Washington, Idaho and Alaska. She graduated from Anacortes High School in 1959 and attended Colorado Women's College in Denver, Colorado from 1959-1960. She returned to Anacortes after college where she took a secretary/office position with Anacortes Veneer, Inc. and met her future husband Duane Worth. They wed in 1961 and settled in North Seattle, Washington. She worked for Bankers Life Nebraska in Seattle until 1964 when their first daughter, Shawn, was born. Dorothy returned to work in 1966 as the secretary/receptionist for Kansas City Life in Seattle. In 1970 the family moved to Lynnwood, Washington and their second child, Cheryl, was born. Dorothy remained a stay at home mom raising their daughters. She was active in Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, school volunteer, Blue Bird and Camp Fire leaders as well as a leader consultant.
In the 1970's she enjoyed sewing (most of all the girls' school clothes), macramae, painting ceramics and tracing the family genealogy on both parent's sides of the family. Weekends were spent either camping on property by the Skookumchuck River or in Anacortes with family. In 1979 she returned to work for a small home building company in Lynnwood, Colony Craft, Inc. This company was part of a larger company, Murray Franklin. She remained with the company becoming office manager until her retirement in January 2004. Dorothy also organized 16 years of the Scott Larson Family Reunions held at the Bayview Grange Hall. These weekends were full of food, dancing, poker, games, killer croquet tourneys (the winner received the 'Golden Mallet'), Norwegian Horseshoes and fellowship.
In 1982, Dorothy and Duane divorced. Dorothy met Bill Francis through her love of square dancing and they have been dancing ever since. Square dancing took them to Canada, Oregon, Arizona, Colorado, all over Washington and even a square dance cruise to Nanaimo BC, Vancouver, Victoria. They wed November 22, 1984 and she became the wonderful mother to Troy, Tim, Tami and Terry Francis. They soon came to know the love and care of the mom Cheryl and Shawn had known all their lives. Their family grew over the years to include 12 grandchildren and one great- granddaughter: Jonathan (Scott and Shawn Toevs), Christina (Scott and Cheryl Leid), Justin and Ashley Davenport (Tami and Dave Davenport), Meghan Ellis (Tami and Ed Ellis), Clayton, Corey, Collin and Cari (Troy and Tina Francis), Brett and Amanda Losey, Hayley Francis (Tim and Brenda Francis), great- granddaughter, Neveah Davenport (Ashley Davenport).
In July of 2009 they began a new journey with the purchase of a second home in Casa Grande, Arizona. In the short time they were there, they made many friends through church and square dancing. Dorothy loved the sunny weather, sunrises, sunsets and the joy of exploring new places and meeting new people. Dorothy touched many lives in her 70 short years and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 28, 2011, at Evans Funeral Chapel, 1105 32nd St., Anacortes, WA. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2011, at Evans Funeral Chapel to be followed by a Graveside Service at Grand View Cemetery in Anacortes. A reception will take place at the Anacortes Lutheran Church, 2100 O Ave., Anacortes, following the Graveside Service.
