Michael Wayne Schreiner
Michael Wayne Schreiner born in the WWII years on May 26, 1941 in Jackson, Missouri went home to Heaven January 15, 2011 after a short battle with complications of COPD.
Mike had a smile and joke for everyone. He was kind and generous, willing to give his last dollar to anyone who needed it. He loved to hunt, fish and ride his motorcycle until an accident badly injured his knee and put an ending to his "riding free." He then had to give up his hunting, and eventually his fishing, as ill health began to keep him from these favorite pastimes.
After completing school, Mike joined the U.S. Army (Tank division) spending several years in Germany. Upon returning home, he lived in numerous places throughout Washington, including Everett and Stan-wood. His favorite job was that of forest ranger in the Verlot area shortly after his military years. He often spoke of this job with a twinkle in his eyes. An avid football fan, Mike woke up in the hospital to the news that the Seahawks beat the Saints and were but one game away from playing in the Super Bowl, Oh, how he was looking forward to that next game in Chicago.
As much as Mike seemed to be a solitary figure, he was careful in selecting who would come into his life and world. He often tried to portray this feeling of being a "loner" throughout his life but he was actually a real "people" person. Mike often telephoned his older brother, Gary; nephews, Brian and Blaine; his sisters, Betty and Patricia to help fill the voids in his day. Sometimes, Mike seemed to be desperately lonely as he fought through his pain but he did not let it interfere with his relationships. He loved and cared about his family and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Carl Schreiner; mother, Anna Hazel (Schreiner) Haaseth; sister, Devonna Horn; and brother, Jim Schreiner.
He leaves behind sister, Betty Craig (Terry); brother, Gary Schreiner (Sandy); sister, Becky Sundberg (Leroy); sister, Patricia Carsner (Terry); and numerous nephews; nieces, extended family members and friends, all of whom will lovingly miss him every day.
To a person, we will sorely miss Mike, and the love he shared so freely will continue. We can all move forward with our lives at Mike's direction, "Live your dreams today and be happy."
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Freeborn Lutheran Church, 2304 300th St. NW, Stanwood, WA.
