Gilbert Stieg Obituary

Stieg, Gilbert Donald Age 67, of Fond du Lac, passed away September 26, 2011, at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Gilbert was born August 4, 1944, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, to Gilbert A. and Dorothy (nee Yanko) Stieg, both deceased. He grew up in Oshkosh, then spent most of his early adult life in Milwaukee and Racine, Wisconsin, working as a taxidermist for the Milwaukee Public Museum and eventually as the Director of the Racine County Museum (now the Racine Heritage Museum). During those years, he also taught taxidermy at the Oshkosh County Museum. Later, Gilbert returned to Oshkosh where he remained self-employed as a taxidermist throughout his working life. Gilbert's interests included falconry, snakes, parrots and art. He also enjoyed a sundry collection of animal companions over the years and took pleasure in hosting talks about snakes and taxidermy in the Oshkosh area. He is survived by his son and daughter, Luke Stieg of Rochester, Wisconsin, and Allison Jones of New York, New York and her husband, Patrice; his three grandchildren (Luke's children), Trevor, Corin, and Sydney. A private service with the family will be held through Konrad Behlman Funeral Homes & Crematory of Oshkosh. Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home and Crematory 920-231-1510 www.konrad-behlman.com

My Dear Gil, (what I called him, his ma called him "Gibby"). Anyway I'm so sorry I didn't get to say good-bye. You were my younger life teacher. You had an eternal wisdom beyond that was from someplace other than this world.
I lived at your place out on Mt. Tom Road, maybe not all the time but a lot.
Sometimes when you and Joanie wanted to go out I would even babysit Luke, Alison, and BW the dog.(aka "Puppy") The thing I loved the most was trudging around in knee deep snow hunting with our hawks. Somehow minus 10 or twenty with as much wind didn't seem that cold, not like it does now. Thank you for the honor of being your friend, I'll always love all of you!

Belatedly, rest in peace, Gibby. I often think about the things we did together in our innocence back in the late 50s. Your old Sacred Heart School classmate, Ken Mauritz [email protected]
