LIMA — Dr. Howard E. "Cookie" Koch, 94, passed away at 4:43 PM on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at Primrose Retirement Community of Lima.
Dr. Koch was born September 7, 1924 in Cleveland, OH, to Arthur and Gertrude (Johns) Koch who both preceded him in death. On June 25, 1947, he married Patricia Carroll Koch, who survives in Lima.
Dr. Koch graduated in 1943 from Cleveland West Tech High School and completed his undergraduate studies at Baldwin-Wallace College. He received his degree in Dentistry from Western Reserve University in 1951. He and his wife, Patricia, moved to Lima in 1951, when he opened his office in Family Practice of Dentistry, retiring in 2009. He received the honor of being named "Oldest Worker in Ohio" in 2009 by Experience Works and attended presentation ceremonies in Washington, DC. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran serving as a bombardier on B-17's with the 8th Air Force in the European Theatre. He had an experience of a lifetime he was privileged to go on the Honor Flight on May 20, 2015. He served on many civic committees in his younger years.
He was a member of Lima Rotary Club, a life member of VFW Post 1275, Shawnee Country Club, Senior Citizens Services, Inc. and numerous dental associations and a devoted Cleveland Indians fan.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia C. Koch of Lima: a son, David H. (Barbara G.) Koch of Anderson, SC; three daughters, Patricia A. Koch (Charles E.) Schulien of Portland, OR, Margaret K. "Peggy" (Steven C.) Draeger of Columbus, OH and Katherine A. Habrun (Brian J.) Doherty of Simpsonville, SC; eight grandchildren, Nathan J. (Alix) Draeger, Seth E. (Amy Densmore) Draeger, Sarah K. Habrun (Dr. Patrick) Williams, Jacob D. (Callie) Habrun, Betsy M. Habrun (Drew) Thompson, Timothy D. (JoyAnn) Koch, Kristen L. (Ryan) Bowles and Lauren M. Koch; nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Dean E. Habrun; two brothers Richard E. Koch, Brother, John P. Koch; a sister, Virginia Smith
A memorial service will be held a later date at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Equestrian Therapy Program.
Arrangements have been entrusted to CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL.

Dr. Koch was an amazingly passionate man who was a great friend and customer of DeHavens for many years. I really enjoyed his passionate embrace of life, family and community!! My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you in your time of mourning!!
