Michael H. Fury, Esq. of Nanuet, NY went to his heavenly home on October 11, 2016. A bright light has gone out in our world. Always the gentleman, always earnest, always approachable, always the encourager, he instilled in us that the world could be a better place because of one person - and he lived it until his passing.

Born in Yonkers, NY to Henry C. and Mary L. Fury on February 1, 1927, his professional achievement and civil service are uncommon. He was a graduate of Saint Simon Stock High School, Iona College and Fordham University School of Law. He served as a Junior Officer in the United States Army of Occupation in Japan. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1952.

He moved to Pearl River in 1953 with his former wife, Marguerite, where they raised their family and began his law practice. He practiced law as Senior Partner in the law firm of Fury and Kennedy in Pearl River for 57 years.

Michael was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities from Dominican College in 1975. He served as President of the Catholic Lawyers Guild of Rockland County and was Assistant County Attorney of Rockland County. He also served as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Dominican College of Blauvelt, NY where he played a significant role in obtaining the College's four year charter and establishing the School of Nursing. He served as President and was a life member of the Rockland County Bar Association, established the Rockland County Bar Foundation and started a Charitable Trust for the Foundation using his personal assets. In August 2014, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the Bar Association for Lifetime Achievement, the first award ever given.

Michael was an Incorporator, Director, Corporate Secretary and General Counsel of the former Union State Bank, Orangeburg, NY. He was past President of the Pearl River Rotary Club and also established the Rotary Scholarship Foundation of Pearl River and served as President. He was a tireless promoter of scholarships for deserving youths seeking higher education.

Michael was predeceased by his second wife, Joan A. Fury. He is survived by his first wife, Marguerite J. Fury, his brothers, Arnold J. Fury and Reverend Henry G. Fury, his precious daughters, Marianne Burkhardt, Margo Engelbrektson (Jon), Maureen Simalchik, Madelyn Nealon, step daughters, Mary Ellen Ciaccia-Meade and Sue Dollinger, his beloved sons, Michael J. Fury (Donna) and Mark Fury (Maria Esther). Michael was proud of his many grandchildren and all of their accomplishments, Brian Simalchik (betrothed Amanda Korman), Stephen Simalchik, Colin Fury, Kahyla Fury (betrothed Sam Maynez), Ian Fury, Megan Fury, Clayton Fury, Hallie Fury, Emily Nealon, Alyssa Nealon, step grandchildren, Jeanmarie Silverman, Christina Cartaya (Michael) and Stephen Silverman. He was thrilled to have a great grandson, Mason Maynez, and step grandchildren, Robert Michael Cartaya and Amelia Marie Silverman. Michael is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

His memory shall live on in all who knew him and loved him.

The family will receive visitors at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home, Pearl River on Saturday from 7pm to 9pm, and Sunday from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm

A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Aedan's Roman Catholic Church on Monday at 10am. Private cremation to follow.

The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Pearl River Rotary Scholarship Foundation in honor of Michael H. Fury.
