Cheri Eileen (Lenz) Bopp, age 77, of Culbertson, passed away at McCook Community Hospital on October 30, 2025.
Cheri was born in Gothenburg, Nebraska on August 26, 1948 to Paul and Iona Lenz, the oldest of nine children. She attended high school, graduating from the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture (UNSA) in Curtis, Nebraska in 1966.
After completing high school, Cheri attended the beauty academy in McCook, Nebraska and was a beautician for 24 years, finishing her career at “Shear Design” in 1992.
On September 7, 1969 Cheri was united in marriage to the love of her life Jimmie Bopp and the couple made their home in Culbertson. In 1980 they welcomed a son, Joshua Bopp.
In 2004 she became wheelchair bound. It didn’t stop her though. She enjoyed her mornings at garden club and her surroundings, even years later, were always adorned with many, many plants. Cheri liked to keep the Culbertson Library on their toes, reading every book as soon as it arrived. Playing Scrabble with family was something she held close to her heart, beating EVERYONE almost every time. (We kept track) She loved to watch NCIS and enjoyed “rolling to church” when the weather was right. Cheri loved to watch the birds out of her window at Hillcrest and never wanted them to go hungry. Her true love was her family. She talked about family reunions months before, and it was the highlight of her years. Cheri was truly a one in a million. Though faced with physical adversity, she constantly had a smile on her face and was always up for a visit or a game quick of scrabble.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, of 54 years; parents, Paul and Iona Lenz; brother, Kenneth Lenz; brother, Dwight (Ike) Lenz; and brother, Dennis Lenz.
Cheri is survived by her son, Joshua (Allison) Bopp of McCook; two grandchildren, Paige Bopp and Landon Bopp of McCook; brother, Dale (Laura) of Oxford, IA; brother, Jeff (Kim) of Maywood, NE; brother, Kevin (Brenda) of Seward, NE; brother, Les (Robin) Lenz of Papillion, NE; sister, Katie Lenz-Huston of Alliance, NE; sisters-in-law, Susie Lenz and Tracy Lenz, along with many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has been chosen and a celebration of life will be determined at a later date.
