Gastonia – Derek Landon Hussey, 29, passed away on June 13, 2023 with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on February 23, 1994 to Dempsey Lee Miller, Jr. and Melanie R. Frye. He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Catherine Randolph and his step-father, Tony M. Frye.
Derek enjoyed vacationing at the beach and being out on the water. He loved the outdoors and going fishing, riding horses, four-wheelers, and really up for doing anything outside. More than anything else, he loved riding his motorcycle. Derek was always a kid-at-heart and leaves many happy memories by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his mother, Melanie R. Frye; brother, Andrew M. Frye and his fiancée, LaRee and their children, Calvin, Ian, and Abigail; sister, Amanda J. Dyer and her husband, Jonathan and their children, JonWyatt Dyer, and Jude; aunt, Ruthie Helton (Bragg) and her husband, Tommy; uncle, Greg Bragg; cousins, Edna L. Harrison, Evan Bragg, Abbey Bragg and her sons, Kaleb and Kanaan Walls; girlfriend, Christa L. Wade; his boss and good friend, Brandon Dimmer; his dear and very close friend, Brandy Short; and many more loving friends.
The Family will receive friends on Saturday June 17th from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home with a Memorial Service to follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Withers and Whisenant Chapel with Pastor Forrest Hennessee officiating.
