Robert E. "Bob" Lamkin

Bob Lamkin passed away peacefully on May 7, 2023. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends. Bob was 94 years old.
Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Johnnie G. Lamkin, and daughter, Lisa Thrower of Jacksonville, Florida. He is survived by two daughters, Laura Kelley (Terry), of Quitman, Georgia, and Gayle Lamkin, of Tallahassee, Florida; three grandchildren, Megan Conyers (Sofia) of Miami, Florida; Jordan Gerber (Blake) of Jacksonville, Florida; and Chase Kelley, of Thomasville, Georgia; and two great-grandchildren, Kennedy and Reagan.
Bob grew up in Waycross, Georgia, and entered college at Auburn University where he earned a degree in Architecture and graduated in the Spring of 1953. Bob dearly loved Auburn and was an avid supporter. During his days at Auburn, he met the love of his life, Johnnie. They were married June 3, 1952. Following college and marriage, Bob entered the U.S. Army, serving meritoriously in Korea from 1953 to 1955. Following discharge, he began his career as an architect and raised his family.
He was known throughout his life for his sense of humor and the ability to make others smile. He loved to sing. Bob was a member of Thomasville Road Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School, sang with the senior adult choir and served wherever there was a need. He continued to share his talents while residing at Allegro Inspired Living Facility, where he served as a resident council member, played in the handbell choir, and occasionally led the music at the Allegro Chapel on Sundays, and he helped design and build the model train display at Allegro, which is quite spectacular.
During the final years of Bob's life at Allegro, God sent a beautiful and lovable companion, Peggy Lewis. The two chose love and joy during their brief life together. Peggy died March 26, 2020.
A memorial will be held for family and friends at Culley's Meadowwood, 700 Timberlane Road in Tallahassee on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at 10:00 a.m.
The family wishes to thank the staff and residents of Allegro for all the love, care, and memories made, as well as the staff of Tallahassee Memorial Neurological Outpatient Center, and others who made his heavenly transition so peaceful.
The family wishes that in lieu of flowers, donations and memorial contributions be made to the Big Bend Hospice and asks that you love one another and always be kind.
