Viola Fay Fritz, age 93 of Cannon Falls, passed away peacefully at the Spring Valley Nursing Home in Spring Valley, Wisconsin on Tuesday, October 28th, 2025.
Viola was born July 28th, 1932 in Steen, MN. She was the daughter of Gerrit and Vivian Van Voorst. Viola graduated from Luverne High School in 1950. She was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart John on July 11th, 1954.
She was a homemaker, and worked for St. Olaf for 21 years. Viola enjoyed spending time at the cabin in Garrison, playing her organ, and watching the grandchildren's sporting events. She loved spending time with her family. One of her favorite days was "Cookie Day" and making her famous Peanut Blossom cookies. Another favorite was hosting many swimming pool parties in the backyard.
She is survived by her sons Kevin (Julie) Fritz of Garrison and Jim (Sheri) Fritz of Cannon Falls; grandchildren Matthew (Kristine) Fritz, Ryan (Jessica) Fritz, Jenna (Matt) Sjoblom and Holly Fritz; great-grandchildren Issac, Eli and Emma Fritz. Rylie, Reese and Renlie Fritz. Jackson and Josie Sjoblom; along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband John of 65 years; her parents; sister Marge Kolbert; and brother Ken Van Voorst.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 8 at 11:00 am, with visitation from 10-11:00 am, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 220 W. Main St., Cannon Falls. This service will be live-streamed and available to watch below. Interment will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in Viola's memory to the First Congregational Church and the Cannon Falls Food Shelf.
