Walter Hugh Jones was born on December 30, 1950, to parents Sarah Blount Massenburg and William Alonzo Jones in Atlanta, Georgia. He died on October 10, 2025, at Emory St. Joseph Hospital in Atlanta after a lengthy illness. Walter graduated from Northside High School in Atlanta and delivered antiques for Red Baron’s. He became a professional truck driver for Schneider National in 1993, retiring in 2013.
A devoted son, his heart was filled with faith in His Lord Jesus Christ, love, compassion, loyalty, and generosity. He was proud to be an American and often placed flags on veterans’ graves on special occasions.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents and older brother USMC Sgt. Boyd Eugene “Gene” Jones, who was killed on his second tour of duty in Vietnam, December 27, 1967. He is survived by two nephews Matthew and Chris Jones, as well as, his cousins Hugh Wardlaw, Bartlett, TN, and Jan Wardlaw McSpadden, Ridgeland, MS, and friends.
