William Douglas "Doug" Sims, 73, of Oak Grove, MO, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
Doug was born on January 24, 1952 to Robert "Bob" Sims and Wanda Rose (Heishman) Sims. He was united in marriage on April 14, 1975 to Wetta Louise Heide.
Doug started his own construction company at the young age of 18 which he ran up until he took over the family roofing business, which is currently running three generations strong, a testament of his strong work ethics which he passed on to his children.
Doug was a loving husband, a supportive father and an always present grandpa and he was always happiest spending time with his family. He loved watching his grandchildren in their various sports and activities and always sending them home with armfuls of Candy. He also loved playing cards on Saturday night, and he always looked forward to the annual hunting trips he would take with his sons and would eventually include grandsons and granddaughters where he taught them the golden rule, "What happens on the hunting trips, stays on hunting trips." Doug was also an avid collector and was always looking to add to his gun and coin collection.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Wetta Sims, children Brian Sims and wife Lisa, Missy Sims Pruetting; Shelly Sims Killingsworth and husband Ben; Brandon Sims; Jason Sims and wife Angie; his 13 grandchildren Anna, Austin, Brooke, Baylee, Piper, Addisyn, Cade, Jeremy, Harley, BriLeigh, Dalton, Tinley; and Hadley and one great grandchild Coast.
He is proceeded in death by three of his children: Shannon, Jeremy and Shane, his parents and one brother.
A visitation will be held on Monday, November 3rd from 6-7:30pm at Blue Springs Christian Church, 7920 MO-7, Blue Springs, Mo. with a funeral service on Tuesday the 4th at 10:30am. Burial will follow at Salem Cemetery in Independence, Mo.
