John C. Coiner

John Carl Coiner, 91, of the Hermitage Community, died on Sunday, December 26, 2010, at Waynesboro Manor Assisted Living facility.

He was born in Augusta County on February 20, 1919, a son of the late John Crist and Margaret E. Morris Coiner.

Carl was a lifetime and faithful member of Hermitage Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the United States Armed Forces, serving in the Army during World War II. He was employed at Crompton for 25 years, and worked for the former Custom Manufactured Homes for 7 years.

Carl was always willing to help those in need.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray and Fay Coiner; six sisters, Mae McDaniel, Grace Rohr, Becky Dickenson, Cathleen Corbin, Mary Miller, and his twin sister, Sibyl Clements. He is the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Carl is survived by many nieces and nephews.

At his request, there will be no formal viewing or visitation at McDow Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at Augusta Memorial Park, and at 10:45 a celebration of Carl's life will follow at Hermitage Presbyterian Church conducted by the Reverend H. Wray Sherman III.

Pallbearers will be Marshall, Jim, and Harold Coiner, Everett Gray, Ray Clark, and Randy Shifflett. Honorary pallbearers will be Barbara Clark, June Drumheller, Patricia Howell, and Judy Abbott.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hermitage Presbyterian Church, 46 Hildebrand Church Road, Waynesboro, VA 22980.

I remember Carl was a very nice man.I grew up in Heremitage.I remember his white german shepards.And he took care of his mom,all his life.And how his house was made of logs.These were my childhood memories.May his family be at peace.

Carl was a very giving man and wanted no thanks or recognition for his gifts. In many cases he would do things for folks 'in secret'. Memories of Carl will be with us forever and we feel very blessed to have had his life touch ours.
