MARY KASINDORF Obituary

KASINDORF--Mary.

Mary Rachel Rose Eitingon Kasindorf, died peacefully in her sleep the morning of January 29, 2017. She was born to Louisa and Solomon Eitingon on October 31, 1929. Mary and her family left England for the US at the beginning of World War II. Mary graduated from Barnard College and then received a Master's in Education from Columbia Teacher's College. She married Stanley Kasindorf in 1954 and they were married until his death in 1983. She spent most of her life with her family in Glen Cove, NY. Mary devoted her life to children; first to her own, Matthew Kasindorf, and Susan Kasindorf- Lang, and then to hundreds of other young children who she taught and encouraged throughout her career as an early-childhood educator and administrator. Mary's final professional position was as the executive director of CLASP in Great Neck, NY. Her commitment to early- childhood education inspired friends and family. Mary is survived by her two children, her granddaughter Alana Kasindorf, her son-in-law Marty Lang, her daughter-in-law Deborah Kasindorf and her sister and brother-in-law- Phyllis and Victor Grann. Contributions in her memory may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research in New York City. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 1st at 11am at Gutterman's Funeral Home, 8000 Jericho Turnpike, Woodbury, NY.

It's hard to believe that it's been almost eight years to the day since my dear aunt Mary-Rose has passed. I'm so grateful that I knew her long enough as an adult to have so many great memories of all our talks and brief get togethers. To this day, I continue to think about her when things come up that I wish I could discuss with her. I will always miss and remember her with great love and fondness.

There isn't a month that goes by when I don't think of something that my aunt Mary said or did to encourage or inspire me. I so miss our conversations on so many topics. I will never forget her and what a beautiful person she was.

I continue to think of my aunt Mary all the time. Her support, compassion, and understanding are her lasting legacy to me and I call upon it to this day whenever I am going through challenging times. I love her dearly and will never forget her. I only wish that I had gotten to know her, uncle Stan, and my cousins Matt and Susan when I was growing up.

Aunt Mary was a real treasure in my life; a steadfast source of support and encouragement and a beacon of hope during very difficult times. I'm so glad I was able to get to know her, albeit later on in my life. I only wish I had known her, uncle Stan, and cousins Matt and Susan much earlier in my life. I feel confident that life would have been much more enjoyable had I been able to know them during my youth. I send all my love and deepest condolences to my cousins Matt and Susan.

Danny Eitingon, aunt Mary's first nephew.
