Lorraine Amsler Obituary

Passed away peacefully in her home in Petaluma on October 10, 2010 at the age of 79. Born on December 28, 1930, raised, educated and married in San Francisco, Lorraine earned her teaching credentials and worked as an elementary school teacher. In 1953 she married San Francisco native Robert (Bob) Amsler at Star of the Sea Catholic church. After Bob served in the army in Korea, they settled in Orange County where she worked as a full-time homemaker and mother to their three children. In 1968 Lorraine went back to work part-time as a substitute teacher. They moved back to the bay area in 1970 and settled in Novato. Lorraine worked until retirement at Fireman's Fund in San Rafael, then she and Bob moved to Petaluma in 1993. Lorraine enjoyed reading, art, music, theatre, cooking, gardening, exercise, travel, camping and spending time with her family. She always had a positive attitude and a smile on her face. She will be remembered by those who knew her as Sweet Lorraine. Lorraine was preceded in death by parents Joseph and Constance Riviello, daughter Diane Amsler, husband Bob Amsler and brother Cosmo "Vic" Riviello. She is survived by son, Mark Amsler of Petaluma, daughter Lisa Parnow of Petaluma, son-in-law Peter and grandsons Charlie and Eric Parnow of Petaluma, and grandson Kevin Parnow of San Francisco. Friends are invited to join family members for a Celebration of Lorraine's Life aboard The Empress, Sunday, October 17th at 2:00 p.m. sharp, 310 Harbor Drive, Sausalito, returning between 5:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully accepted to Hospice of Petaluma or your favorite charity.
