Kyle Pagerly Obituary
Kyle David Pagerly, 28, was killed in the line of duty, June 29, 2011, in Albany Township.
He was the husband of Alecia Anne (Bird), whom he married December 12, 2007.
Born in Reading, he was a son of David J., husband of Lisa M. (Brumbach) Pagerly, West Lawn and Michelle D. (Dietrich), wife of Paul B. Moyer, Mohrsville.
Kyle was a 2001 graduate of Wilson High School. Following high school he pursued a career in law enforcement and graduated from Reading Police Academy, Federal Prison Academy and Philadelphia Canine Academy.
He was a Canine Deputy Sheriff with the Berks County Sheriff's Department since 2006. He also worked part-time with the Western Berks Regional Police Department, the U.S. Marshals Task Force and was a lieutenant for the Spring Township Fire Department.
Kyle loved to be outdoors, hiking and enjoying nature. He also loved working out and running. He ran a marathon in 2010, completed numerous triathlons and was training for an Ironman Triathlon later this year. He was a U.S. Army, Military Police, veteran, serving in Kosovo and Iraq.
Kyle died a hero. He gave the gift of life, through his death, by donating his organs and tissues so others can live. He will be dearly missed.
In addition to his wife and parents, he will be survived by his child, due in January. Also surviving are his brother, Brian M., husband of Callie Pagerly, Grovetown, GA; his step-sister, Brianna M. Clark, West Lawn; his paternal grandfather, Thomas, husband of Doris Pagerly, Ephrata; maternal grandfather, Donald A. Dietrich, Wernersville; and his nephews, Austin C. Pagerly, Aiden A. Peppers; and his niece, Ella E. Peppers. His canine partner, Jynx, also survives him.
Kyle was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Vilma (Bassi) Pagerly and his maternal grandmother, MaryLou Dietrich.
A Memorial Service will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Sovereign Center, 700 Penn St., Reading. A visitation will be held 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Center. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Kyle Pagerly Memorial Fund, Attn: Sheriff's Dept, 633 Court St., Reading, PA 19601. Dearest Kyle, We are now just a little over the 2 year mark since that horrible night came upon us. Nothing has changed, our hearts are still as broken now as they were then. Happy 30th Birthday Kyle. Wish you were here so we could all wish to you in person. Alecia and mom are amazing women who I admire tremendously. Savannah Kylie is absolutely PERFECT. My family and I live in Berks County, PA. In reading about Jynx's nomination for the Hero Dog Awards I was reminded of that fateful day in June 2011. Many thoughts and prayers go out to the family as they continue to heal and keep Kyle's memory and dedication alive. How blessed they are to have Jynx and his daughter, who looks just like him. I hope you always knew how proud I am of you in all you did. I'm so honored I had you for my son. Kyle LIVES ON! To be an awesome husband, officer, son, sibling, soldier, volenteer, and athlete, in the everyday life and then in his death! WOW! When Kyle's life ended so tragically, he graciously gave new life and beginnings to many other's. It's public knowledge that this beautiful man gave the gift of life to many other's that were about to loose their life.

I spent my entire afternoon at work reading reflections of Kyle and his huge life. Alecia, when you put your arms around your baby, many memories of Kyle will be with you. Until then, hold and love Jynx, he needs your love and support also. The relationship between he any Kyle are as one. He, too, misses his loved one. Jynx will protect you and the baby for as long as he is able. When the baby arrives your life will once again be full of love, hope and joy.

Last November, I met Kyle and Jynx at Steve Moyer's Subaru. I was volunteering with First State Greyhound Rescue and couldn't get to meet the men and their dogs. After I had a free moment, I was going to see them, but they were in their vehicle, ready to leave. Immediately, Kyle went out and brought Jynx back in so I could meet him. Just a small story in the life of this wonderful soldier, protector, husband, friend, son...but it adds to the life that was Kyle's. Thank you for all you did for us. I just keep thinking and asking why these things have to happen to such good people, and the only answer I can come up with is that God needed him closer. He was truly an Angel on earth and now he is an Angel in heaven.
