Pearl Cantrell Obituary

Pearl Cantrell

Richland Springs

Pearl Cantrell, 105 bacon lady of Richland Springs, Texas peacefully passed away on Thursday February 13, 2014 in Brownwood, Texas. She was born on March 15, 1908 to her father Jess Hudson and mother Abigail Knutson in San Saba County.

Pearl had a very active life in which she lived everyday like it was her last. She lived to see a couple of World Wars, a Great Depression, the Dust Bowl, devastating 1938 flood, severe droughts and 19 presidents. During her time here she had eight children in which she loved dearly. Being a lifelong resident to San Saba County, people in the community took time to get to know her pretty well. She enjoyed listening to music and dancing with her beloved friends and family members. When she had some down time she loved working with her hands either working in the yard to maintain her flowers or quilting and sewing together new pieces of art. Pearl spent time in Lakeview where she celebrated her 105th birthday where it was held at the Lake View School House each year. Her claim to fame came last year when Oscar Meyer filmed their interview with her because she claimed the reason why she has lived so long was because "she ate bacon every day."

Pearl is survived by two sons: Billy Howard Allen and Emmett Mairon Allen and wife Patty; three daughters: Aba Ruth Kruger, Faye-Eden Curry, and Anno Richards and husband James; twenty-three grandchildren; fifty-three great-grandchildren, great-great- grandchildren and great-great-great- grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Jess Hudson and Abigail Hudson; two husbands: Clarence Patrick Allen and Henry Hilton Cantrell; and three children: Margie Nell Allen, Robert Wayne Allen, and Lula Pearl Larse.

I saw the story on TV about Pearl Cantrell. What a character she must have been! I can't help but wonder if she and my grandmother may have been friends in Richland Springs.
My grandmother, Eugenia Maud St.Clair, was born there in 1906 and died in 1998. Her family had a boarding house there and I heard many wonderful stories about her childhood in Richland Springs.
God Bless your family.

What a blessed life! Sympathies are extended to the family. I, too had a great, great cousin that lived to be 105 years.
