George A. Owens
George was born March 29, 1933 at Loma Linda, California. He was the only child of Kathryn Lowman Owens and Robert F. Owens. George passed away on October 11, 2010.
His career began with a background of military service as a Chief X-ray Technologist at U.S. Army Hospital, Fort McArthur, California. Upon discharge from the military, he married Diane Heft, a student nurse at Loma Linda School of Nursing.
He attended L.A. College of Mortuary Science and worked in that field while completing his college work in Los Angeles, CA.
He was a Pharmaceutical Representative for 7 years and then began a new career in Marketing and Management for GAF Corporation and in later years for Fuji NDT Systems. He was a Sales Manager for 11 Western States when he retired because of health problems in March 1989.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1988 and his mother in 2001 and his daughter-in-law, Sue Owens, in April 2010.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years Diane; and his sons Robert and his wife Kathleen of Laguna Niguel, CA., Charles of Orcutt, CA. and Max of Morristown, Tenn; grandsons Jonathan and Jeffrey of Orcutt; sisters-in-law Carol Killion and husband David of Eureka Springs, AR, Mary Kelly and husband Don of San Diego, CA, Millicent Reiboldt and husband Bob of Golden, CO, Doris Smith and husband Clint of Thornton, CO; brother-in-law John Heft and wife Janice of Greeley, CO, Carl Heft and wife Dorothy of Portland, OR.; cousin Solon Owens and wife Barbara of Eugene, OR: and numerous nieces and nephews.
His family thanks Dr. Robert Wood and wife Linda and Dr. Bruce Ourieff, Katherine Harris and staffs for their care and support during his illness and the Hospice staff during his final week.
He will be missed by his family, church family and friends for his strong leadership and his great sense of humor.
A memorial service will be held on October 23, 2010 at 3:00pm at the Santa Maria Seventh day Adventist Church, 1775 S. Thornburg, Santa Maria, CA.
