Mary Woo Obituary

Mary Ann Woo

July 19, 1927 - December 26, 2015

Mary, a native of San Francisco, passed away peacefully at home on December 26th; she was 88 years old. Mary grew up in San Francisco Chinatown, graduated from Lowell High School and continued her education at San Francisco City College where she met her husband of 63 years, Louie Woo. She continued on to UC Berkeley, where she graduated as one of the few Asian American women optometrist in 1949. In 1952 she married her college sweetheart and in 1960, Mary and Louie bought their family home where they raised their three children. Mary is survived by her husband, two of her three children, Ben and Nancy, her sister Alice Wong and her brother Larry Lee, and 5 grandchildren, Tommy, David, Jennifer, Jeffrey and Emily. Her oldest son, Michael, precedes Mary in death.

Services will be held at Cypress Lawn Funeral Home, Tiffany Chapel at 1:00 pm on January 2, 2016. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity in her memory.

Dear Woo family
I pray the Lord, comfort you all at this time.
Mary was my Sunday school teacher at Portola Baptist Church.
She was an amazing lady.
She taught me many things about Christianity.
She made every lesson fun and intersting.
She even was my Optametrist for some time.
My sincere condolence.

I am so sorry for your loss. Mrs. Woo was such a lovely, gentle, kind person, a supportive and loving mother to my dear friend and classmate, Nancy. I remember her from school events, my play dates with Nancy, and Nancy's birthday parties. May your fond and cherished memories ease your pain at this time.
