Barbara Gates Obituary

Barbara Lee Gates 76, passed away 9-8-10 in Santa Rosa. She was born on 9-3-34 in SF, CA, to Margaret Quinn and Fred Flynn. She had two sisters, Carol Abeling and Gayle Cooke (deceased). Barbara lived in San Francisco and attended St. Vincent H.S. After graduating, she married John Gates, June 21, 1952 and they settled in SSF. Barbara was a loving wife for over 50 years. She was active, working for Macy's over 40 years. She volunteered for the PTA and the athletic departments at SSF schools, enjoyed traveling and was talented at cross-stitching baby blankets. Barbara and John retired to Santa Rosa. She was a loving mother of five children; Cindy Gates (deceased), Edward Gates (San Francisco), Lori Gates (Denver, CO), Kenneth Gates (San Mateo), and Lynn Gates (Petaluma). She was the Mother-in-Law of Ron Fode. Barbara was the grandmother to Jack Martin and Tyler Gates, and the step-grandmother of Justin and Travis Fode. Private inurnment will be held at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Santa Rosa. Donations are preferred to the Milo Foundation (2060 Fourth Street San Rafael, CA 94901), a non-profit animal sanctuary.

She will be greatly missed by everyone at Macy's--especially all of her shoe dept people! Barbara was such a fixture there and I always looked forward to seeing her on the weekends. It feels like something is missing there now. Condolences to her family, she was such a wonderful woman.
