George Reepen Obituary

George Steven Reepen George Steven Reepen passed away at home on September 8, 2010, on his 56th birthday. He was born, raised and educated in San Francisco. He attended Saint Paul's Grammar School, James Lick Junior High, and John O'Connell High School. George was a highly skilled sheet metal worker for over 25 years, a member of Local #104. He also worked as a Merchant Marine. A man of many talents, George was an excellent all-around handyman and an accomplished amateur chef. He was a passionate fan of the Giants and 49ers, and of sports in general. He loved golf. His many other interests included gardening, fishing, and Latin jazz. George appreciated good music and good food, with lots of salsa in both cases. The world will be a much blander place without George to spice our lives. He was the life of the party -- warm, funny, big-hearted, and well loved. We will miss him deeply. Brothers Ron, Dan, and Bruno Reepen, and sister Mary Lou Baird survive George, as do nephews Eric, Brandon, Evan and Chris, and niece Gabrielle. Georges parents, Henry and Matilda Reepen, preceded him in death. Friends may visit on Thursday, September 16, from 6 PM to 9 PM, at Driscoll's Valencia Street Serra Mortuary at 1465 Valencia Street (between 25th and 26th Streets) in San Francisco, and are invited to attend the service there at 7 PM. Mass will be held on Friday, September 17 at 10 AM at St Paul's Catholic Church, 221 Valley Street (at Church Street), San Francisco.

George was an unique individual. He was 10 years my junior when played football at the park. It didn't matter who got knocked down, Georgie was always there with his big smile. I am sure the family will miss Georgie the most, but his Day St. buddies will be right up there next. Good-bye George you were a great guy.

I enjoyed seeing George in the neighborhood or at Reepen family gatherings, like Ron's birthday and retirement luncheon. His health wasn't the greatest, but his smile & friendliness were selfless gifts to illuminate any listener. And even tho his candle has extinguished, I bet on the other side he is basking "in the light".
