Ryan Osberg Obituary

Ryan Thomas Osberg

Apr. 15, 1977 - Jan. 1, 2016

He is survived by his loving family including wife, Erin, children Jake, Daniel, and Kelly, mother Susan, sister Marianne, brother Jeff (Gina), nephews Jack, Nick and Declan. He is also survived by an untold numbers of friends, including his best friend Andrew Ruiz.

He is preceded in death by his father, Robert L. Osberg, beloved Vice-Principal at Burlingame Intermediate School.

Ryan had two loves in life - his family and fishing. He was a devoted father and loved watching his three beautiful children play sports. A passionate fisherman, and lifelong Giants and 49ers fan, some of Ryan's favorite things to do were to catch huge trout, go to the mountains near MiWuk Village and Lake Tahoe for fishing, snow skiing and camping - all lifelong obsessions. Twenty fish in a day was quite common, but without a big one, Ryan never called it a great day unless his kids were on the boat with him. Many outings to Beardsley Lake and the surrounding areas are family treasures. Shark week on the SF Bay with the kids and friends were lots of fun. Oz also enjoyed a good round of golf and a wager or two on the occasional game. Everyone in the family asked Ryan for his pick before risking their own cash; he had a gift. A Giants season ticket holder since 2000, Ryan enjoyed many a game with family and friends in the stands and was fired up to see them win three World Series Championships these last several years.

A longtime baseball and soccer coach, he was always on the sidelines shouting encouragement as his mother and father did when he was young. Vacations to Hawaii with family produced many fond memories. Those that know Ryan well will never forget his wicked dry sense of humor. A lover, a fighter, a great man.

A graduate of Burlingame High School (Class of 1995) and Menlo College, Ryan was a tremendous local athlete. Playing AYSO as a boy he routinely scored 3-4 goals in a game. In junior high school he could dunk a basketball and set the BIS school record for the high jump. At BHS Ryan was a three sport star, playing football, basketball and track. A punishing Safety in football, he helped BHS go 10-0 in 1993 and to the CCS. In track he placed 4th in the County in the 100 meter dash and won a track tournament with a high jump of 6 feet 4 inches. He could still dunk a basketball up until his untimely death. We miss you and love you, Little Bro (Ryber).

A Funeral Service will be held at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Burlingame, CA on Saturday, 2/13/16 at 2 PM. Reception to follow.

"Ry-guy" [as I use to call him]. An old friend since the 6th grade, Ryan was known for his sweet demeanor, athletic gift, one of the smartest guys in class and of course for his wicked sense of humor.

I hadn't seen Ryan since we graduated from HS in 95; that's 20 years! When we had our 20th reunion last Nov 2015, let me tell you, I was one excited girl. Since I've always adored Ryan, it was real treat to catch up and see him. His dad, "Mr. O", was one of the best Vice-Principals I have ever known.

I am extremely lucky to have had the pleasure of seeing him one last time back in November. Can't tell you what that means to me.

I am saddened by the news and wish his family my sincere condolences. #GodBlessRyanandBob

We have so many fond and fun memories of Ryan. From his penchant for a good game of trivia, to organizing the kids and Dads in a rambunctious game of football at Thanksgiving, or a great time golfing with all the guys he was a larger than life kind of man. Our condolences to his Mom, Sister, Brother, and Erin and their three beautiful children.

Ryan was such a giant part of my childhood like so many Burlingame kids. Just like all of Aaron's friends I got to be the little sister they may or may not have always wanted. Ryan your infectious personality shaped all of our childhoods. You coined many of phrases that will far out live us all as Burlingame legend. All of our childhoods would have never been the same without you. Thank you for being you and sharing that with all of us. To all of the Osbergs I pray for your peace and that you are filled with your love for Ryan through these very difficult times. Thank you for sharing your son, brother, father with all of us. Here's to him catching the biggest one of all right along side of Mr. Osberg. With all my love Amber Ellis.

Ryan was not only a wonderful little brother to Marianne and Jeff, but he was a fantastic "little brother" to all of Marianne's friends...us included. Watching him go from a silly 8 year old, to an amazing father was a joy. He will ALWAYS be remembered for that beautiful grin, awesome way of making anyone feel welcome and fabulous laugh!!! We love you Ryber...forever in our thoughts. Kim and Allie Muehleisen
