KATHLEEN BERNATH Obituary

November 11, 1910 August 31, 2010 Born to Joseph Philip Loeb and Amy Kahn Loeb, great-granddaughter of Harris Newmark. She was a graduate of Los Angeles High School and UCLA. In 1934, she married the love of her life, teacher Edward J. Bernath, and thrived as an active partner in Ed's successful career in education. She returned to school and received her Master's in Library Science from Columbia University at age 50. In 1961 Ed retired, they moved to Ontario, CA, and Kathleen started her career at the Henry E. Huntington Library where she became an Americana Cataloguer. When she retired 16 years later, she was Director of the Upland Public Library. In 1983, Kathleen moved to Claremont Manor and spent her remaining 27 years keeping very active, including volunteering 14 years as Head Librarian of Claremont Manor Library. Her sister Margaret Loeb Soares, preceded her in death. Kathleen is survived by her niece, Dorothy Soares Allen, grandniece, Jennifer Allen Fritz and grand- nephew, Joshua Allen. She is also in the hearts of the extended Bernath Family; friends who Kathleen and Ed mentored in furthering their education. She was an extraordinary person who made a difference in many lives. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at Claremont Manor on September 18 at 2:00 pm.
