CHARLES GRIFFITH

Charles N. Griffith Carneys Point, N.J. Charles N. Griffith, 94, a lifelong resident of Carneys Point passed away on February 7, 2017 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center in Wilmington, NC. Born in Penns Grove, Charles was the son of the James & Elizabeth Griffith. He graduated from Penns Grove High School and afterwards went on to serve in the US Army during the Second World War with the Second Chemical Mortar Battalion, Ninth Division and received several medals, The European African Middle Eastern Campaign medal, WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupational Medal and the American Campaign Medal. After his discharge from active duty in 1946, Mr. Griffith would then join the National Guard in '47 and remain active until being discharged in 1984 with the rank of Major. During this time, he was also employed through DuPonts and would retire in 1982 as a General Foreman. Charles was also a member of the Penns Grove Excelsior Lodge 54, the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Penns Grove - Carneys Point Historical Society, Sakima Country Club, had served on the Township Committee, the Glassboro Rod and Gun Club, the Penns grove High School Alumni Association and the Serviceman's Memorial Home. He is survived by his daughter Gayle Bordeaux (David) of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren, Stacey Smith (Jeff), Alicia Bianco (Michael), Nicole Whorl (Greg), Aaron Bordeaux and Tyler Bordeaux as well as seven great grandchildren, In addition to his parents, his wife Virginia D. and a daughter Sandra L. Mauser predeceased him. A viewing will be held on Monday, February 13, 2017 from 7 until 9 PM at the Adams Funeral Home, 18 E. Maple Ave., Penns Grove, NJ 08069. The Service will be held the following day, February 14, 2017 at 11 AM at the funeral home as well. After the service, interment will take place at Eglington Cemetery. The family would like to thank the caregivers at both the Bradley Creek Health Care Center in Wilmington, NC for their love and kindness and those at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center who made his last days peaceful.
