Earl Chester Carlson Supervising court stenographer, Coast Guard veteran, 90 Earl Chester Carlson, 90, passed away on Jan. 30, 2015, at the Van Dyke Hospice Center in Toms River, N.J. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, Feb. 7, between 2 and 4 p.m. at the Silverton Funeral Home, 2482 Church Rd., Toms River, N.J., www.silvertonmemorial.com.A service will begin at 3:30 p.m. "Chet" grew up in West Orange, N.J. He was a longtime resident of East Hanover, N.J., and Brick, N.J. An avid golfer and boater, Earl was supervising court stenographer for the Morris and Sussex County court systems for over 30 years. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and was a member of Toastmasters. Earl was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Ruth; sister, Greta; brother, Einar, and brothers-in-law, Harold Tinquist and George Collinson. He is survived by his daughter, Gayle Carlson of East Hanover; son, Kurt Carlson and David Mills of Toms River; sister, Inga Collinson of Toms River; sister in-law, Janet Carlson of Marshfield, Mass., and many nieces and nephews.
