Jeff was my favorite gun pilot to fly with in our unit, D Troop 3 Sqd/5th Cav, during the summer of 1971 in Quang Tri, Vietnam. He was a very competent pilot, unflappable in combat, and a cheerful friend when relaxing over a beer after a hard day flying. May he rest in peace.

How do I say goodbye to a brother? I had the honor and privilage to fly combat with Jeff, many times. His skills as a snake driver were superior to most others, and he saved me more times then I can count. We lived not far from each other when we came back to the world,in Ft.Lauderdale.Those were good years too.He and Linda, and My wife and I were the best of friends.I knew George,Lois, and Bill and Tom.Tom,Jeff and I would play handball whenever we got the chance. Those were fun days.I guess I'm still in shock that Jeff is gone now.I have pictures of him from Vietnam, talking to us and smiling and laughing.Goodbye my dear friend and brother in arms.I hope to see you at Fiddlers Green when it's my turn to lift off one last time from the main active. You were always a hero to me bro...

Dear Lynne, Aunt Pam, Nicole and Tyler.
Though we've never met in person, it was very hard and very sad to hear that Uncle Jeff had passed away. It brought home the fact that when you feel a need to go meet someone or to make a phone call, you should really take the time to do it. We are not assured that there will be a tomorrow. But we will treasure the one phone call and the kind voice on the other end that was our Uncle Jeff. At the same time we also learned of Bill Hayes (father to Wm. Scott and Wendy Sue)and Lois (Grandmother) had also passed away. All three were a great loss. If things could be done again, we'd sure make time to sit and talk, and just get to know our family. For now, we pray for comfort for each of you who grieve.
"Blessed are they who mourn for they will be comforted"
Love,
Scott, Sheradee and Children.

Nicole, Tyler, Pam, Lois and Lynne, please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss.
Jeff and I were friends since grade school. Chronologically, a long time, yet it seems like yesterday.
I remember him as having a great sense of humor, concurrent with a serious side that assured accomplishment. Jeff will be missed.

Ive only spoke to Jeff a few times on the phone but he was my husbands brother. My husband Bill Hayes spoke of Jeff often and he was very proud of Jeff's accomplishments. My deepest condolances go out to his family at this time. Wish I could do something to help.

It saddens me to recieve this tradgic news. Jeff Hayes is my uncle and My grandfathers brother. (Bill Hayes) passed away last year on july 15th,2009 in penticton Hospital BC Canada. We Burried him on his birthday last year on July 21,2009. At this time me and my Grandmother Ruby Hayes would like to send our deepest Condolances. It isnt the easiest to say goodbye to a loved one and I wish I could take away all the pain that this family is experiencing. Although me and my Uncle Jeff didnt have the closest relationship due to us living in different countries we still were able to maintain a relationship. We have had a few conversations on the phone and I remember him wanting to take me and Tyler out sight seeing and to disneyworld but He said I had to get to Flordia 1st!. He was more than willing to let me stay there and more than willing to do what he could to help. I heart goes out to my great grandma Lois and to Pam, Tyler, Nicole, And Lynne. I would Hugs you guys so tight right now if I could. Please tell the family Im thinking of them. Me and Ruby Hayes wish we could be there.

I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to Jeff's family. Jeff and his family have been life long friends through the friendship of our parents. Last fall I had the pleasure of meeting Lynn and visiting with Jeff and his mom. I am so glad that timing worked out and we could visit. Again, my sincerest sympathy for the entire family. Jeff will always be remembered fondly and with great friendship.
