Betty Young Obituary

ZEIGLER -- Betty Jane Young, 73, passed away at 5:40 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2011, in Herrin Hospital.

Betty was born July 2, 1937, in Barboursville, W.Va., the daughter of William H. and Geneva J. (Stover) Tinsley.

She married Bernard "Ben" Young on April 9, 1956, in Johnston City. He preceded her in death Jan. 2, 2004.

Betty was a retired cook, who worked for Williamson County Programs on Aging, and a member of First Christian Church of Johns-ton City.

She was a beloved grand-mother who will be greatly missed.

Survivors include three grandchildren, Betty J. Opatt of Zeigler, Crystal L. Opatt of Zeigler and James Opatt Jr. and wife, Shanna, of West Frankfort; four great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Aidan King, Addison Opatt and Ethan Bense; a son-in-law, Scott Opatt Sr. of Zeigler; three brothers, Larry, Charles and Orville; one sister, Frances; several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Ann Cobb of Johnston City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one daughter, Elizabeth J. Opatt on Aug. 7, 1998.

Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2011, in First Christian Church in Johnston City with Pastor Lee Petty officiating.

Memorials may be made to First Christian Church.

Murman and Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City is in charge of arrange-ments.
