DUKE, Myrtle Bourne, 99, of 1717 Bellevue Ave., died peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, September 8, 2010. She was born on the family farm in Hanover County on April 17, 1911. In addition to her parents, Arthur and Olia, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Alese Bourne Conrad and Ora Bourne Sanders; and her husband, Maurice "Morris" Duke. She is survived by a brother, George W. Bourne and his wife, Ruth; her sons, J. Maurice Duke (Elizabeth Anne), George T. Duke (Kathleen); and a daughter, Frances Reynolds (William); one nephew, Kenneth Bourne (Elizabeth); one niece, Sandra Bourne Holland (James); three grandchildren, Brian Duke (Amanda), Stephen Rockwell (Sarah) and Colleen Duke Hosey (Curtis); seven great-grandchildren, two great-nephews and one great-niece. She was a 60-year resident of Lakeside and was a devoted and caring mother and a faithful volunteer worker at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. She was also a volunteer worker at the former Cathedral High School, The Little Sisters of the Poor and Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. She was, for many years, the manager of the Mill Fabric Store in Lakeside. Her family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday (today) at Bliley's-Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Road. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, September 11, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 8250 Woodman Road. Interment private.
