Dear Bernie. You were always so tickled when I called you "Bernard" or "Bernardo". Yet the joy and laughter that always accompanied you and that you shared with all just made our day. We will miss you dearly.

Bernie my friend, you will truly be missed. I will never forget your speeches. They were the epitomy of "stability, focus, and rhythm". Thank you for making the worst of days seem so insignificant. Now you can finally be infinitely stable my friend. God bless you!

Bernie, my balance is now low, my rhythm is off beat, and my focus is now blurred. I will miss the jokes and speeches. You where always a joy to see each and everyday

Bernard was one of the world's greatiest guitar players. He always strived for perfection in his music, and only liked playing music with a positive message. I only regret that the entire world did not get to see him perform on stage while he smiled and played.

Bernie, you will be greatly missed.
I enjoyed our conversations each day you
would come by the Bank of America. There
will always be Coffee waiting for you.
You have "Always" talked about your wife, and now I know that both of you are
smiling in Heaven.
May God be with your family.
Your friend Richard (Greywolf).

Dear Sweet Bernie. You made such an indelible impression on my life. I feel so fortunate to have been able to get to know and love the "you". I will try to stay focused so I don't have to hear you say, "Oh Jo!" from the heavens. I will miss you dearly sweet friend, but now you're back with Catherine. Love always, Jo

The Virginia Transplant Team will miss Bernie. He always kept us on our toes, was always letting us know he was stable and whether he had rhythm for the day. He was such a good man, and always went above and beyond what he was expected to do. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family, but he is in a much better place. I was very fortunate to have been able to work with him. We miss you so much.

It was my pleasure to know Mr. Bernie. He always had a positive and uplifting attitude. We appreciated his wit and bits of wisdom. He worked hard to take care of his responsibilities, and I admire him for his diligence. He will be missed!!

Bernie you will be missed by all of us here in the transplant clinic. You were always so delightful and ready to do whatever was necessary to help keep us organized. I will miss seeing you walk by every morning saying "hello", getting ready to start your day! God Bless and you will be greatly missed around here.

Bubba, You always gave such good speeches. I always enjoyed finding focus and rhythm through our talks. You weathered quite a few storms my friend. Now you are reunited with your soul mate.

Bernie will be missed so much. He was so concerned and helpful to us in the HLA lab, always ready to go above and beyond the call of duty. Our “rhythm” will be off without him; we won’t have his speeches to cheer us up. We’ll miss helping to get him started on mornings when his “balance” was off with a coffee or may be some “sugar products”.

Bernie, you will be greatly missed. The HLA staff always looked forward to seeing your smiling face and hearing your latest "Bernieism". Our balance, rhythm, and focus are off without you. May you walk hand-in-hand with Catherine in Heaven.

Words can not express the void I felt when I learned of this great loss but for us to loose was a gain for the Lord. Bernie always had a pleasant smile and a kind word. I will miss Bernie terribly. I looked forward to his visits every day. Over the years, he became my good friend.
Bernie, when I was given the news, I lost my "balance". I lost my "rhythm". I will take comfort in knowing that you are now with your beloved wife. I know you're in heaven. When I get there, I'll find you and together we'll give a speech. Until then my friend, I will remember you fondly and with focus.

Crossing the Bar

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;

For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.
